Maryanne Pastry Shoppe — Restaurant in Sea Isle City

Absolutely fantastic! We ordered our wedding cake for our September 2024 wedding from here and my guests are still talking about it. This was the best wedding cake I’ve ever had at a wedding and I’m not just saying that! The communication with Michelle ordering my cake and desserts was so easy, and they executed my vision for the ornate vintage-inspired design perfectly. It was so beautiful. But even more, the taste was phenomenal! We ordered a 2-tier 8” round bottom, 6” round top for our cake to cut (vanilla cake, vanilla buttercream). Then we ordered a full sheet (vanilla cake, vanilla buttercream, lemon buttercream filling) and half sheet (vanilla cake, vanilla buttercream, chocolate filling). Plus, 20 vanilla cupcakes with chocolate buttercream filling as a little bonus treat. They also delivered all of this to our venue (Sea Isle Yacht Club) and they made the payment super seamless as well. This Sea Isle City institution always serves up the best in classic pastry and cakes. I’ve ordered cakes through the years and always very happy until today. I ordered pound cake with classic buttercream, and asked for lemons, I said, nothing crazy, just think Mediterranean. I pick up cake and get this cake. Fine, bakery is not know for its decorating skills but this cake looks like a 12 year old art project. When cake was shown to me, there was large gash on the side that looked an adult sized finger, pushed into the icing and cake. The very young employee said, ooh that doesn’t look good. They tried to fix with icing which made this art project even worse. So much for a nice 75th birthday cake. Ugh! Shame on you Maryanne pastry shoppe. We all love to support small business, but not when your product is subpar. Extremely disappointing! Do better Maryanne pastry shoppe.

First time checking this place out. I asked the young woman behind the counter what she would recommend for a first-timer and she recommended the "powdered cream" donuts and the sticky buns. I took her word for it and got a powdered cream. Also tried to get a single sticky bun, but was informed you have to buy at least 3. I cannot eat 3 giant sticky buns myself, so this was pretty disappointing. As for the donut, it just was not very good. My first bite had zero cream and the donut itself was very, very dry. Once I got to the cream, it wasn't much better. Obviously less dry as the cream makes up for the donut, but the cream itself was generic and bland and did not taste homemade. Not a great first...
