Ok, have you ever had a good experience somewhere and thought you should give that place a great review, but then it dawned on you that by doing so, even though you may be helping to support the place you like, you'd also be responsible for opening the floodgates to the masses, possibly ruining your own enjoyment of said place, which was why you wanted to write a positive review in the first place? Ugh. That was a really long sentence.
I've seen it happen, though. Small local businesses become overrun by the soul sucking hordes who turn everything that was once cool about them into another inane tourist destination or cliche Instagram post. Is that what we want? Everything Starbucks?
While that scenario might be a little unrealistic with Cafe Javasti, not because it isn't a great little neighborhood spot, rather I suspect it's because it is more likely to be torn down to make room for more stupid overpriced townhouses with no parking (because Seattle hates cars), or rainbow bike lanes (because Seattle hates cars - except for Uber Priuses), or (barf) another Starbucks. Hey, did you know you can Uber to Javasti in a Prius? Or you can bike there. Just sayin. If you cared at all about the planet...
Wow. That was a rant, huh? You thought thought this was supposed to be a review for a cafe and crepery. Alright fine. Here goes -
The coffee, if I'm being honest, isn't bad, but not my favorite. I know we all have different tastes when it comes to our precious brew and some may love the joe here - great. I however, am a full-fledged coffee snob. I prefer a pretentious pour over of a single origin organic bean that hasn't been charred to death, or left in an air pot for an hour. Like I said - it's not bad, and refills are super cheap (woohoo).
The crepes are pretty freaking awesome though. I used to go to the Jewel Box at Thornton Place for their crepes, but alas, it has become overrun (see above). Not to worry though, the crepes at Javasti are way better anyway. They aren't going to fill you up for hours if you're used to the family sized portions at Denny's (Google it or ask your grandparents) but they're definitely enough food - and at a reasonable price, too.
I've only been a couple times, but so far I like that the people who work there don't seem to be the brand of chip on their shoulder Millenial who seek personal validation by trying to make the rest of the world feel guilty for something. We all know what I'm talking about.
If you've read this far, you my friend, are a champ. I had a blast writing it. I think the whole idea of Google popping up every time I go somewhere, "How was this? How was that? Would you recommend this? Do you want to share your experience?" is ridiculous. Do people really need someone to tell them about every little aspect of life? Why don't you go out and have an experience...
Read moreI've been stopping by Cafe Javasti off and on for several months now and have come away pretty impressed by their coffee, food, and overall atmosphere and customer service.
First off, it's in a great location. Pretty easy to park if you need to drive over, but also in a great spot if you're close enough to take a walk. The cafe itself has always been very welcoming and clean when I've visited, even during really busy stretches when you'd expect things could get a little messy. The coffee is consistently great and I love the variety of crepes they have on offer. I've really enjoyed the sweet crepes I've tried and the one savory crepe I've ordered was tasty, although the crepe itself was a little thick compared to the sweet ones I'd had (unsure if this is normal with the savory options or if it was just a one off).
I will say that I did experience a bit of a mix up once where my crepe order seemed to get lost during a rush. What was estimated to be a 15 minute wait wound up being closer to 45 minutes, but, to their credit, when I asked for an update on the order they sincerely apologized for the mix up and even offered to refill my 20oz iced latte I had ordered on the house for the delay. The girl who had initially taken my order apologized multiple times for the error and I did really appreciate the free drink as well. I've found that the staff here are, in general, quite nice and pleasant to talk with when they aren't too busy and they did a great job of doing their best to make good on an honest mistake.
Definitely recommend this spot, especially if you have some time to hang out in the cafe and just relax with some good...
Read moreWent in to get a espresso to go. After women behind counter took my order, she smugly asked to see my vaccine card. I told her I was just getting my order to go and I pointed out that I had a mask on. Still, she persisted, asking for my vaccine card. It became obvious to me my espresso was not going to get made unless I whipped out my vaccination card. I had it on me, I have been vaccinated but it was the rude, smug tone she took with me when asking me for my vaccine card. And what logic is in requiring a customer to show proof of vaccination when they have a mask on and will keep it on during the entire time while inside the business? FYI, just because you're vaccinated, does not mean that you're danger free to everyone, you can still shed the virus, therefore passing it on. Good god people, use some common sense and logic! But hey, if making a customer show proof they have been vaccinated in order to get service gives you a power tripping high, Inslee's minions, so be it. I'll just take my business else where, because you have a service and product that is not in short supply or unique. There is coffee shops on...
