Hot Dayum. This place is phenomenal. I found this place by browsing the food delivery apps since everything is closed for Quarantine 2020. I decided to buy some for my boyfriend's birthday, and thankfully the store was open! I bought the regular spaghetti, the tri-colored gnocchi, and both the palomino and pomodoro sauces. I was very pleasantly surprised.
The Pasta: The spaghetti was done in 3 minutes just like the package instructed, and it was perfectly al dente. The pasta had an excellent flavor, exactly what you should expect from fresh pasta, and it's made using semolina (which any good, self-respecting Italian pasta should use, thank you very much). Have yet to try the gnocchi, but since I prefer mine in a non-red sauce, i'll be trying this later. I'm sincerely regretting not picking up any pesto since I have no doubt theirs is divine. Now for the sauces.
The Sauces: Bravissimo. The palomino sauce was delectable. It wasn't too sweet, acidic, or greasy, and it had the right amount of texture from the tomato pieces. I think this was my favorite. If you're used to a sweeter sauce, then get the palomino sauce. It's not sweet (I don't think red sauces should really be all that sweet anyway), but is sweeter than the pomodoro sauce. The pomodoro sauce is not sweet, and though it has red pepper flakes, don't worry, it's not spicy, but has a shadow of heat that perfectly balances the other flavors. The sauce is similar in look and texture to Buca di Beppo's, but the flavor is better and it isn't sweet (and don't get me wrong, I LOVE Buca di Beppo, but this sauce is better IMO). The pomodoro was enhanced by a good-quality asiago/parm blend (none of that shelf-stable shaky cheese with the green lid!) since the cheese lent the sweetness the pomodoro didn't provide (and rightfully so). I felt this sauce was slightly more acidic than the palomino.
The Bread: I don't have a clue why that one review mentioned the baguette was small and over-priced. The baguette was $5 and was definitely a full-sized baguette. Even if I hadn't read that the bread was locally made, the freshness gives it away. It was damn good quality baguette. Well worth the $5, and I'm sure as heck glad I bought it from La Pasta instead of QFC. I turned half of it into garlic bread, and used it to soak up the sauce left over on the plate (as you should).
The Service: Very nice man with the slightest of accents. He was so helpful and patient since I kept saying "oh and can I also get a..." As in true non-american fashion, you have to ASK if you want help or have a question, which I LOVE because I hate being bothered when I'm browsing. I'll definitely be coming back.
Truly, well worth getting your pasta here. I love that I didn't have to go into Pike Place to get something special. Everything tasted great and was fresh, and exactly what I was hoping it would be. This was the most excellent dine-in birthday dinner and I didn't have to bother with any real mess. It's the best pasta I've had since Italy. Bless you people...
Read moreWe picked up fresh pasta to-go from the Ballard Farmers market, and made it for dinner that night. We got the tricolor fettuccine, the spinach & garlic ravioli, and the four cheese ravioli. The fettuccine was delicious, and visually stunning. The spinach ravioli was tasty, as well, though some raviolis became waterlogged due to holes and unsealed edges in the pasta. However, the four cheese ravioli requires a lengthier explanation. The moment I bit into the the delicate ravioli, the flavor of smoked salmon enveloped my tastebuds, instead of cheese. I bit into another, and a mellow, cheesy goodness ensued. Obviously, half of the "four cheese" raviolis had been some type of fish. This was particularly upsetting to me and my mother, because we have both been vegetarian for years. This could be a liability if someone was allergic to fish, and they were given mislabeled or mispackaged pasta. In conclusion, the food was amazing, but I'm not happy with how we were given the...
Read moreI really feel like this place should change their name or somehow change the branding because there's so much more they have to offer than pasta. I've passed them up before because I thought it was a restaurant.
The other day I needed eggs and as I was headed to the little mini-mart next to them, I noticed they had a sign that said that they had farm fresh eggs. Unfortunately I was about an hour early for the new shipment from the actual farm, but it gave me a moment to look around and see that they have such a wonderful little inventory!
Soaps, candles, specialty butters, freaking panna cotta, homemade ice creams, it's like a little tiny farmers market right there on the corner! I love it so much I just love it so so much! I want to try all of it.
Anyway, just putting in my two cents. This is not an Italian restaurant. This is a perfect little farmers market...
