we went there because our son (10y, I know....) wanted to try it out. I like to see new restaurants come up and appreciate how difficult the business is, so I go to new restaurants wanting very much to love the food. This new iteration of the Wedgwood local sports pub is very snazzy, well decorated and boasts excellent and kind service. Unfortunately, the food... The fries are good, but are a bit of a gimmick since they are battered in a cornstarch slurry or some such thing. Pub food done well is, well, sublime. It is simple fare, so it's important to do it right. This is unfortunately, not what's happening in the kitchen. First, mozzarella sticks, obviously dumped into the frier out of a bag, not freshly battered. The accompanying marinara seemed like crushed tomatoes from a can. Chicken tenders (more like cutlets) also out of a bag, very similar battering. Burgers were incinerated, my wife who always asks for well done when they ask, thought it was overcooked. Part of the patty was actually crunchy, it was so cooked. Not seasoned either. The bun was really good, though, fresh and soft. Great job sourcing the buns. Egg was over easy, but the yolk was cooked hard. That defeats the whole purpose of an egg on a pub burger!! You can't overcook the egg. The quesadilla was pretty good, chicken fajita kind of thing, chicken cooked with bell peppers stuffed into the thing, although I'm not sure that the cheese was a Mexican style blend, seemed kind of like mozzarella. So, overall, kind of overpriced bland small-town 1980's level pub fare. Would have been one star if the service weren't so kind and attentive. Gotta up your kitchen game, Wedgwood Public House! The ambiance and location...
Read moreOne of the few left, of a dying breed of “Old School Seattle” Cafe/Ale Houses/Bars, that hasn’t had to close it’s doors. So for a taste and vision of what Seattle used to be like back in the roaring 90’s, or even back to the 40’s when the Wedgewood Tavern first opened on this spot, go to this hidden gem in the just as inviting Wedgewood neighborhood. The beer selection is quality (15+ taps), not quantity, and all of the servers are very versed in the craft ales they offer, and will always help you make an informed choice. They also have local wines, and a fully stocked bar, with several choices of top shelf brands, and all the cocktails are “Hand poured.” The kitchen is amazing, serving up the best fish-n-chips in town, World famous chicken wings, burgers, salads, daily specials, and perhaps the best deal on steamed clams in town. You have several choices of where to be served, the main bar, a family dining room, and also an outdoor patio in the front. There is a pool table, and Golden Tee golf game, also dart boards in the back party room. The staff has been there for some time, and are very ready to make your day. The new owner has lived in Seattle their entire life, and is dedicated to bringing you, and your friends or family an experience you will want to come back for again and again. So go check out the Wedgewood Ale House, get a taste of “Old School Seattle,” and feel right at home, no matter where your...
Read moreI visited this place because I saw their sign claiming "best fish & chips in town". After partaking of their fish & chips I instantly believed them. A large juicy filet hand-breaded and fried just so, with homemade cole slaw and hand-cut fries, and a tasty tartar sauce concoction on the side-- heavenly. I am by no means a fish & chips connoisseur, however, so in order to accurately spread news of their greatness I made it my mission to slowly but surely try as many different Seattle fish & chips restaurants as I can for the sole purpose of comparing it with that of Wedgwood Ale House. I don't eat out frequently enough to have tried every place in Seattle by now, I've only tried about 5 or so since I began my mission. However, my opinion still holds-- I agree Wedgwood Ale house indeed has the best fish & chips in town. My mission shall continue, but I don't expect the verdict to change.
Additionally, their selection of beer is excellent. I have on numerous occasions enjoyed a pint with some friends and felt comfortable in the homey, laid-back atmosphere.
I did notice one other review that mentioned feeling strange upon first walking in. I did feel awkward the first couple of times I visited because the servers are pretty laid-back and do not go out of their way to greet and seat every guest, but once I got the hint to just grab an open table I very quickly received...
