My husband and I moved to Seguin last year. And while we've already tried several restaurants in the area (Mexican, BBQ, Chinese, etc.,, we've generally been underwhelmed and continue the hunt for (what will eventually become) our favorite restaurant for each type of cuisine.
There are certain factors I look for when choosing a restaurant via their Review Rating. I always start with a restaurants 1 stars and make my way to the 5 stars: cleanliness, taste, portion size, freshness (old/stale/reheated from yesterday), temp of food, friendliness of staff, are the reviewers loyal locals/tourists, menu size, etc. A restaurant with a low rating isn't necessarily a bad restaurant. I will absolutely order fantastic food To-Go from a restaurant with rude servers, lol.
Now, if you live in Seguin, you know there are very few restaurants open on Sundays. And if they are, they close between 2 and 3pm. I was scrolling looking for a new place to try and came across Los Chilaquiles - and they had a high rating? How had I missed trying a 4.6 restaurant? So of course we had to hurry because it was already 1pm.
I got the Quesataco Plate and my husband ordered the Carnitas Plate. The interior of the restaurant is not very spacious (12 tables?) and yet the 5 incredibly friendly servers managed to buzz in and out of those tables with precision timing. Our coffee cups were never empty as we waited, watching a never ending parade of people ordering food To-Go as there was no seating available.
Our food came. I believe my jaw dropped at the sheer size of the plates. The food was authentic, well seasoned, steaming hot, served with freshly made corn and flour tortillas. Their Salsa Verde is a true jalapeno classic and rivals my own (and I don't attest to that lightly, lol). We finished eating what we could and boxed the rest for later. We ordered 2 Al Pastor Tacos to try later (delicious!). Total for both giant meals, extra tortillas, 2 coffees and 2 tacos To-Go was $47. Quite a bargain when you consider we had enough left overs for dinner.
There are restaurants in Seguin that have placards and awards on their walls for Best this and that -- while Los Chilaquiles is quietly winning the hearts and stomachs of anyone that tastes their food. My face was busy eating so I didn't get a chance to look for any awards. I'll look around for these the next time we eat there -- because there will definitely be...
Read moreNary was such a beautiful waitress. You can tell the place is a Hotspot but even with the amount of people her service was exceptional.
We got our order to go. We had a shrimp torta and a Mexicana Omlete. Even though shrimp torta was not a typical request or on the menu they had no problem preparing it for us. Both of our food was delicious.
Their drinks were delicious and the Togo size is grande, so perfect for a road trip. Matter of fact as we looked around while waiting on our food, everybody's plate was big. They serve big portions of food.
If we are ever in town again we will be back. And according to Nary I have to come back to let her know if her prediction of me having a boy is correct.
Side note: Nary saw that I was pregnant and told me to show her my hands. I flapped my hands diwn like showing her my nails. Apparently if you flao your hands down you are having a boy but if you present the with the palm facing up like a high five position you are having a girl. I have no idea at the moment what I'm having. But there was another pregnant lady in the restaurant and Nary seemed to have gotten the sex correct with her from that method. Lol...
Read moreI usually hype the hell out of this place and try to drum up business for them, but lately they have been seriously dropping the ball. When we go inside to eat it takes forever before anyone comes to the table to take a drink order, and today they kept walking by the drive-thru window without any acknowledgement , then after repeating the order back, still made the tacos wrong. And put the wrong salsa in the bag....you are quickly moving down the list of our favorite place.
Just returned because we love this place so much, but once again we were let down..I told the lady at the drive thru window three times NO CHEESE ON MY CARNE GUISADA TACOS....get home, sure enough, not only is there cheese, there is more cheese than meat ...good bye Chilaqquiles...maybe hire people that are bilingual. It's a shame that y'all stopped getting orders right, we loved you, but we can't keep coming to a place that continues to get our orders wrong every time due to a...
