Never did I EVER think I’d be eating at a Mexican food restaurant on the frontage rd of a major hwy in Seguin, much LESS having an experience SO thoroughly satisfying and divine that I just HAD to write a review once back in the vehicle!! We arrived around 4, before the rush hour traffic kicked in but the parking lot was already 7/8ths full but there was no waitlist or line. The restaurant was just finishing shift change and the surroundings were clean and neat. Our table was clean, as were the chair seats. The young lady dropped off the ubiquitous tortilla chips and red salsa and green salsa. The chips were thin, hot and tasty, the green dipping sauce well balanced between a little north of mild and a little spicy…we never got around to the red salsa 😆 the first one was so good! Then, what turned out to be the best waiter I’ve been served by in over 18 yrs (and I used to own a restaurant!) HUGO arrived to take our drink order. We both ordered the sweet tea and it was p-e-r-f-e-c-t! Not too sweet like S Carolina sweet tea. I could tell Hugo had the innate timing that all great waitstaff have. He was definitely on his “A” game today. My friend ordered Enchiladas Guajillo and I had my forever favorite: Enchiladas Verdes. When the plates arrived, the presentation was excellent and inviting. What I did find different about my dish was that the chicken was cubed instead of shredded like the chicken in my friend’s dish but the charbroiled taste was superb. The tomatillo sauce was delicately balanced and flavorful and the enchiladas were topped off with a dollop of sour cream, as is the norm. My friend had never had the heavier, richer Guajillo sauce but said he really loved the mild chili sauce’s elements (he used to have a restaurant as well…a steakhouse, though). There wasn’t much, if any conversation going on, so wonderful was the food. The refried beans were a tad dry around the edges but I just poured a bit of the green chip salsa on them and voilà, perfection! The Mexican rice was quite flavorful and moist. More than adequate proportions of enchiladas was a welcome surprise and Hugo showed up to refill the tea glasses numerous times, so much so that my friend actually commented that Hugo never allowed the glass be found empty at any point! Like I said, attention to detail and subtle but precise timing…Hugo noticed everything going on at all his tables and this sense of timing allowed him to attend to all his guests needs at all his tables before they even noticed they needed anything! …Something that is VERY hard to teach waitstaff TO DO! It’s innate and instinctual. You either HAVE it or you DON’T. EXCELLENT customer service! He automatically prepared to-go cups of tea with separate cups of ice (!) and had the check ready unobtrusively (his body language knowledge serves him stupendously)! As we took our leave, I actually told Hugo that if I still had my restaurant I would have stolen him away from Cuco’s (in a SECOND!). BTW: Again, VERY decent price points considering the...
Read moreOn Tuesday, July 23, I went to dinner at Los Cucos, joined by two people and when I got up to leave I fell really hard on my right side due to the step coming down from the booth. All the waiters and waitresses rushed over to help me and got me up standing and I told them I did not feel like I needed EMS to come. I went back to Rockport Wednesday morning, July 24, and called my doctor to st up appt the following day. I went in on Thursday, July 25, to see Dr. Ernest Alsop, Rockport Texas, and he recommended that I go get a hip x-ray. on Friday. On Thursday, July 25 , I called ALBERTO ALFONSO, the manager for that area and told him all about my fall at LOS CUCOS in Seguin . He proceeded to tell me that he knew nothing about it and that every manager is trained to submit an accident report as soon as it happens at their restaurant. He said well there are cameras all in side the restaurant and I said that is great so you will see exactly what happened when I fell due to the step that is in front of all of the booths. He then assured me that I would get a call from his insurance company to go over the facts in detail and will be submitted as an accident report with his insurance company. I told him I would be going on Friday morning for a hip x-ray and I could barely walk and being 70 years old I did not need this to happen. On Friday, July 26, I went to RADIOLOGY & ASSOCIATES Portland Texas and had a hip x-ray done. I waited until the following Tuesday, July 30, and since I had not heard anything from their insurance company, I decided to call ALFREDO ALFONSO again. I expressed to him that I had not received a call from his insurance company and he assured me that they will be calling and he was surprised that they hadn’t already. On Wednesday, July 31, I called ALFREDO ALFONSO and of course the call went to his voicemail and I left a long detailed message. It is unbelievable that an establishment like LOS CUCOS, SEGUIN, TEXAS, that has been around so many years would treat their customers in this manner. ALFREDO ALFONSO/District Mgr. and SERGIO CABRERA/President, both are responsible to follow up on any and all accidents that happen at their restaurants. I have lived in Seguin Texas for 20 years and now live in Rockport Texas going on 10 years and have gone to LOS CUCOS numerous times over the 20 years. I do not recommend to anyone to sit in the booths unless you keep a mental note that when you get up to make sure and remember that there is a step going down from each booth. I expected more from LOS CUCOS...
Read more31 Mar 2024 - That's the first time that I have eaten at a Los Cucos since I moved to San Antonio way back in Sep 2010. We used to go to the one over in Cypress that burned down about a year ago. We mainly went to that one about once per month after church on Sundays, and I had forgotten how absolutely DEE-STANKIN- LISHUS their food is!! Now I remember quite well though, and all that I can say is that it tastes like MORE!!! One thing that I really love about L.C. is all of the varieties of food on their menu. Believe it or not, after all of these years, I have YET to find another Mexican restaurant in San Antonio that has such a simple dish as Beef (or Chicken) Fajita Enchiladas on their menus. I have asked at every one that I have been to over here, and I usually just get a blank, confused look or a simple "No, we don't have that here." WHY THE HECK NOT???!!!!
In my conversations with my excellent waiter Johnny G. on Sunday afternoon, I learned that there used to be a Los Cucos in San Antonio about 13 years ago, up near 281 & 1604 on the north side. However, for some odd reason they were not doing very well and ended up closing after about a year.
That's a crying shame, bcuz I would be willing to bet that if a new L.C. was opened up in a different area of San Antonio (for example, near SeaWorld) it would have TONS of business and it would also very likely cause a bunch of the other so-called "Mexican" restaurants to go out of business, quick, fast and in a HURRY!!
Most of the food that I have eaten at other Mexican restaurants around here is bland and just not very appealing at all, but that's not at all the case with L.C.!! I seldom ever eat hardly any of my Spanish rice, bcuz it's just greasy, flavorless, unnecessary carbs. Well that was NOT at all true with the rice that I had at L.C. on Sunday afternoon. It actually had some VERY DELICIOUS flavor and it also had big chunks of veggies inside of the scoop. That was definitely a change from the same old, nasty, greasy rice at every other Mexican...
