PHO 5UP HANOVER — Restaurant in Severn

This is a new location for a local Vietnamese-chain restaurant. They serve common appetizers and soups only. The service is friendly, the restaurant is clean and fairly roomy feeling, the food all comes out very quickly. However, I really expected stellar broth for a restaurant solely focused on Pho.

Don't get me wrong, the broth is decent, but it certainly tastes like a quick broth or at least one that is lacking somewhat due to the scale of production. While I appreciate individual plates of toppings, it feels like a lot less than you would get at other places. I did not find the peanut sauce to my liking either, it was very sweet and was lacking in the peanut flavor I look for in a dipping sauce with my gỏi cuốn.

I was hoping that I'd like it more, in the event my wife and I are in the mood for hot soup, then a quick eatery like this would've been great. Instead we found the broth just lacking. Generally, when I add the jalapenos the broth doesn't turn almost completely jalapeno flavored. In this case I feel like the broth is too light, so it quickly takes on flavors of any additives so it doesn't have a strong flavor on its own (I mostly tasted star anise before adding toppings).

With such a focused menu that isn't executed as well as I was hoping, it is very unlikely I would choose to...

The restaurant is a bit narrow because my body is a bit big, but the decoration is very simple and peaceful. After trying it, I found the broth to be better than the old one. Especially the vegetarian soup, my friend said it better than other pho restaurants. I ate number 1 (eye round rare steak) with meat on the side, and I found this restaurant's meat very fresh. This place deserves 10 stars!!! And was worth the drive, with its authentic vietnamese taste. For someone who grew up around vietnamese culture and friends I am super picky with Pho and where I eat. I came down to go to arundel mills mall and was craving hot bowl of soup and Pho5up came up on my gps and thought it was worth a try after reading good reviews and boy am I glad I did. The Pho was absolutely on point and fresh and they are not at all stingy with the meat! I also ordered a milk tea and it was absolutely delicious. Great Atmosphere and friendly employees.
