Abelardo's Mexican Fresh — Restaurant in Shawnee

I have previously visited the location in Olathe and it is a far cry difference in flavor, accuracy, and freshness. The Birria tacos I received today were stuffed with so much meat with a spoiled not so fresh smell and obviously to get rid of it. It did not taste newly made. The spicy diablo burrito was not up to par it was stuffed with an enormous amount of potatoes and three dried tough shrimp. I ordered the same burrito at their Olathe location and it was very fresh and several tender shrimp. They are doing a poor job modifying the order when I asked for little changes like add pico to my burrito and it was not added. I also asked for chips and salsa and I didn't receive the chips with my order. I also ordered the two crunchy taco meal and the shells tasted off like soap or sanitizing spray. I observed a health code violation with the salsas not covered and short handle dip spoons for the salsa which means lots of germs are being transferred from the handle to the salsa. A man sneezed right near the salsa bar. How inconsiderate! I live a few miles too far or I would have returned the order. Furthermore the location is hidden and secluded and can be difficult to find. Found this place a month ago and it has become one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. For the food portions, the prices are extremely affordable and there is an amazing variety of food. My husband and I don't stray too far from what we always order but when we do, the food never disappointed. My favorite is the Super Nachos. Extremely well-seasoned (unlike other well known places), very generous portions and toppings, and food is always hot. My husband loves their California burrito, a burrito he had in SF and has never found another burrito like it since until this place. We also love the quesidilla and rice bowls. It's the best comfort food and tastes like...home.

Service is always friendly. The owner is very friendly and very generous, sometimes giving us extras that we've never ordered for my son. I so truly appreciate his kindness. Finally got the chance to try Abelardo's and we loved it! Also, we had a great Val Pak coupon from them too.

The restaurant itself is surprisingly more roomy than you think and I love the decoration/aesthetics of the place. The menu is massive and has a ton of options including all-day breakfast options! We opted for the birria burrito, potato and egg breakfast burrito, and a side of queso. We also took a small to-go container of their mild and hot salsa options that are available near the soda fountain machine. The hot is significantly spicy but has such great flavor. The birria burrito was delicious, juicy, and was so filling. The breakfast burrito was legit too. The queso was runnier than I usually like but since it was so dang good, I can't complain.

Overall, we really liked our trip to Abelardo's and cannot wait to come back. The staff were super friendly and our food was done extremely fast. We really have no complaints and hope this place...
