Nom nom nom... This location is a hidden gem. We made a reservation for just the wife and I for a special occasion. We got there and were seated immediately. The place is broken up into several dining "rooms", rather than just one big space. So noise is limited to just the other parties that have been seated in your section. We could see this as being a good or bad situation depending on the other parties... Looking over the menu there are a number of appetizing options. We ended up going with the "meal for two". It's a 4 course meal for two people. Shared appetizer and dessert, but diners can choose between the soup or salad, and a pared down list of entrees. All this for $99. And they don't skimp on the portions. I can eat a lot and we both still ended up coming home with leftovers. Our server was attentive but didn't hover. She was patient and informative with her answers to our questions. Food came out at a good speed for there to be little wait between courses. Our drinks were refilled when appropriate. For our appetizer we chose the goat cheese with habanero jam. The heat of the jam was well balanced with the cheese. They give way more than what can fit on the bruschetta. For the second course, we could choose between a prime rib stew and 1957 salad. We both went with the salad. The size was good and there was plenty of stuff on top. Dressings were good too. Third course, the wife went with the petit oscar (5oz bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin, lump blue crab meat). She usually gets fillet mignon, but really liked this as well. I had the pork chop(s). The menu says plural, but honestly, they are the meat of one thick cut chop with the bone removed. I know my pork chops... Don't get me wrong. It's a lot of meat with or without the bone. It was grilled to perfection. So juicy... Compliments to the boys in the kitchen! I had sides of Parm broccoli and sweet potato fries. The broccoli was perfectly steamed. Done but still a lot of crunch. No mushy greens here. The sweet potato fries are waffle cut and also done to perfection. Crispy and sweet. It's so easy to mess up sweet potato fries for them to come out mushy and bland. Not here. Dessert: we went with the cheese cake but got it to go. We were just to full to eat it there. But come on... It's cheese cake. This location of this KC steakhouse is a literally hidden. It's on the west side of 435 on Midland Dr. Only other thing there are a couple hotels. On a Saturday night there were a lot of tables open. Maybe everyone is at home watching basketball. Don't know. But the kitchen knows what's up. The server we had was top notch. It was a real treat to get this quality without being crowded. We had a wonderful meal and were able to have nice conversation without trying to talk over a near by table. The only negative, and I say this after sitting there for 90min, the chairs could be a bit more comfy. My rear needed something else after the first 60min.. I know.. it's nit-picking. Everything else was grand for our...
Read moreWe did not have a good experience here. The staff almost acted as though we were an imposition on them and taking up space for customers who were spending hundreds on both food and drinks. They laid down a menu for us. And wanted to know right away what we wanted to drink. I asked him where on the menu were the appetizers because I had been given a card for a free one from the wonderful manager from our hotel. The manager had said it should be good up to $16. The waiter, in a very condescending tone told me it was only good for $10. I asked if I could pay the difference since there was only two choices at the ten dollar amount. He said yes. I thought we could get the appetizer while we were deciding what to order for dinner. We finally got the appetizer, but he took forever to come back for our order. We said we both wanted the chicken. We were going to order glazed carrots and asparagus with our meal, as the menu said we had a choice of two sides. But before I could tell him what we wanted for sides, he had grabbed the menus and was gone. We were finished with the appetizer for a long time. I was finally able to flag him down long enough to ask him how long before our order was going to take. He said, it will be a little while longer, as we have to aren't a fast food service. So we sat another ten to fifteen minutes. Finally he brought our plates. Surprise! They both had mashed potatoes and scorched corn. I looked at the waiter and said why did we not get to choose our sides. He said"That's the way it comes!" I said according to the menu, we were supposed to have our choice of sides and... He said again well that's the way it comes. I told him my husband would have preferred the carrots and I would have preferred the asparagus. So he swished out, came back, and threw a dish of carrots on our table. When we got the bill, it was so faded I could hardly read it. It had tip suggestions on it but I could not read them. I had to ask what the bill was. That seemed to upset the waiter as well. After the service I got, along with the attitude, he's lucky I even considered a tip. He might have gotten a 20% tip, but I only gave him 15%, because of his attitude and differential treatment. There was a marked different between the way we were treated and the way other customers who were obviously big spenders, were treated.
I must say though that even though the customer service left a LOT to be desired, the food, however expensive, was delicious. If you have a couple hundred bucks to lavish on food and drinks, they will probably treat you...
Read moreService at the bar, really great! The signature drinks were tasty but pricey. Kinda expected that for a place near the hotel...but they were delicious. I had the Spinach artichoke dip to start, not impressed. Very vinegary, sour...something. it wasn't flavorful. It was bland but sharp, Idk, it was overwhelmingly not delicious. I was disappointed as I look at the menu before I came & was excited to use my allowance of carbs on the chips. I only had a few bites & pushed it to the side. For dinner I got their signature burger, the that comes with Bleu cheese crumbles. No bun. Ordered MEDIUM, it was WELL DONE It came with Blue cheese crumbles, which i had always shyed away from but thought, "they must know what they're doing, ill go with it". I should have kept it simple. It was so salty i cut the top half off. The burger itself is nice, it didnt need all that extra stuff. I also don't remember the menu mentioning it was a deluxe burger, but it came with everything. Which i dont care for and would have asked for no onion, no pickle. I suppose I had my hopes set too high & was disappointed. I had 2 mixed drinks & a seltzer, was waiting for the football game to come on & the bartender brought me my check. I didnt ask to check out. I would have stayed for several more cocktails and football but she made me feel weird, so I was like, its fine, I'll go. I still had 3/4 of the one seltzer pint i ordered, went to the restroom, came back & my place was cleared, my water and nearly full pint pulled to the bar matt, my check was gone. Like she thought I walked out on my check!?!?! Are you kidding me!?!? Too bad, because im staying next door at the hotel for the next 10 days. No hotel bar. & im a pretty good tipper. Of course I reduced the tip to 20% for the poor service at the end. (I started this review before she brought my check, then cleared my spot when i went to the restroom) Hated to leave jaded, but she did this. Not me. EDITED TO UPDATE --THE SOUR FLAVOR IN THAT SPINACH DIP WOULD BE THE SPOILED CREAM CHEESE OR OTHER INGREDIENT!! WHAT TRANSPIRED FOR THE NEXT 3 HRS WAS TORTUROUS. FOOD POISONING. My stomach started hurting on the walk back to the hotel. I went in, laid down, and for the next 3 hrs was i was begging the universe to just let this pass or take me with it. I was in so much pain, I almost called for help. It had to be the Spinach artichoke dip. What an...
