Long story short, stick to the pizza. I can't really say "best in town" because I haven't actually had their pizza for 5-6 years, but back then it was a good experience. And it still has a great reputation now as you can see from other reviews. Would recommend if you like $10+ higher quality pizza than Theo's, Dominio's, Pizza Hut, Nicky's, and Little Caesars. Giving three stars leaning very heavily on the pizza aspect.
Short story long, I decided to come around for an Italian dinner on a Valentines date. We ordered the garlic bread supreme, and chicken parmigiana and shrimp scampi from the "dinner" menu. The garlic bread didn't seem very supreme; it tasted fine, but I thought the sauce was lacking and would've been better 75 cents cheaper more or less. The two dinner entrees came with garlic bread and soup or salad. We both got a bowl of chili with crackers which seemed oily but was not too salty and just a hint spicy, which I enjoyed. The chicken parmigiana was pretty good, quite a big portion too which would've been perfect for two people and great at $10.
Sadly, my first bite into the shrimp scampi ($14) was buttery, slightly creamy and very tasteless, and there was a faint after taste of something I couldn't recognize. I thought maybe I just never had this dish so I think it's weird, or maybe it was just the garlic butter. Two bites later I figured it just wasn't right, so my girlfriend tasted it and told me it was bitter and definitely not what a pasta was supposed to taste like. I told the waiter what I thought and asked her to take it back. She said something along the lines of "Yes, sometimes bad shrimp has caused this to happen, etc...", and said she would tell the chefs and offered changes. The chicken parm was enough, so I told her I didn't want a new dish. Five minutes later my stomach suddenly started to feel like it was sweating on the inside and outside, my heart rate jumped and I had a momentary urge to puke. I'm not allergic to anything I know of, so I figured it wasn't just me. Minor food poisoning I suppose. I sat for about 10 minutes to see if I was really gonna throw up or worse, which I didn't. Later when paying the bill, I saw that the shrimp scampi was still on the bill. I figure a popular pizza place like this wouldn't have many people complaining, so they would see me as that 1 out of 1000 complaining customer. I said to the lady at the register that at the least they should cut the price of the shrimp entree in half, since I did eat the chili and garlic bread. She left to go talk to a higher level worker/manager for a minute and came back with an A-OK. And that was that.
A plus for the waiter for her attitude and checking up on us, though she got busier later in the night and didn't come back for awhile. A plus for the lady at the register who helped me out. A plus for the pizza I had 5-6 years ago. A pretty big minus for the shrimp scampi and me three hours later as I write this review still feeling my stomach uptight. (My girlfriend mentioned an upset stomach as well even after one bite, though she is a bit on the smaller side.) Personally I feel a minus for getting the full bill off the bat with no discount of the sort offered, but I don't really blame anyone and that was fixed to my satisfaction, sort of... And the rest of the dining food was decent, but nothing that made me want to come back in a month or two (and I'm trying hard not to be biased on my experience today, just giving an honest opinion).
With my mixed emotions and experience, I'm giving this a shaky 3/5 stars. Mostly to recognize that it was probably an honest mistake and their place is still good and I'm still alive. Faye's has always held a good reputation with me, but I'm slightly surprised no other reviews claimed any bad/sickening food so far. Too bad I have to...
Read moreI am a chef, my friend who went with me is a cook with 14 years experience. Do you think we know food?
A experience I will never forget.
My friend ordered a pizza, the pizza was fine, tasted as it should just like any other pizza place, not bad and nothing great. I tried a piece and my friend enjoyed it.
I ordered the (cup of) chili, I thought it was bland. So I had my friend sample it, he said it was bland. So, I added hot chili flakes to elevate the flavor of the chili, no didnt help. Didnt want to finish it.
My entree arrives, it was the spaghetti. Ive been wanting some good spaghetti, craving it! It was bland...Again, to make sure my taste buds were working properly, I had my friend sample the spaghetti. And he said, yes its very bland...and he returns to finish his pizza. So, now I have a full cup of chili soup and an entire entree of spaghetti sitting in front of me. The nice little waitress, who did a great job, asked how my food was as she noticed, ive eaten nothing. Because I am a chef, I had to be honest. I told her, the spaghetti was bland and it had no taste at all, including the chili. She offered to box it all up for me and I told her no, I dont want any of it.
As we went to pay, I notice my bill. I had to pay full price for eating, nothing. I asked to talk to the owner and he quickly appeared. I told him the food was super bland ( an understatement ) and I ate nothing. He said, theres nothing he can do about the bill (literally) and he offered me, the SAUCE....which was the exact problem, the sauce was bland. But he wanted me to take some home HAHAHA...LOL. Not sure why he was trying to force me to take the sauce home. So, I said, if you want to make me pay full price for things I didnt eat, then I want my food and Ill take it home. This is approximately 10 mins into the confrontation. My food, APPEARS.....why did they save my food? when I told them, I didnt want to take it home because it was awfully bland. What were they saving my food for? as a cook, in any restaurant, if food comes back, its immediately disposed of!!! these people saved my food, after I told them I didnt want it!! WTH is going on??? my only guess is, to give to a different customer.......
So, after some more explaining to the owner that I didnt eat it because it was so bland and why didnt he throw away my food...he finally gives in and offers my a full discount. My friend paid for his pizza, nothing wrong there.
So...if your into flavorless food...and a restaurant that keeps food that is brought back....go there....as for people who enjoys flavor, we will go somewhere else....who saves food that was meant to be tossed out?? WOW...and who forces the sauce onto the one who doesnt like it? double wow! weirdo!!!!.....I laugh when I drive by, every time. (Im not from Sheyboygan)..who saves food that came back???...
Read moreWe were here on vacation and I stumbled across this place browsing the internet for places to eat. Being from Chicago we usually have a hard time finding a good pizza place while on vacation. We like the good pizza - good sauce, good meats, good vegies, good cheese and good dough. I've heard people say "it's pizza, how do you screw it up?" Trust me, people find a way! But not at Faye's.
I was glad we went there for a pepperoni & sausage pizza (15"). Cost around $13. Took it back to the resort and we were in love. My wife, myself and our 7 year old son. The 8 month old had to do with out (which reminds me, if your breastfeeding the baby may get a bit gassy, but the pizza is worth it!)
We liked it so much, we went back the next day for lunch, the gentleman recognized me from the night before and asked if I had been in there the previous night. I admitted I was and he said "so good you came back?" I was going to joke and say I actually came back for the girls in shorts and Faye's t-shirts, but yeah it's the pizza (not that the girls are bad, but I'm spoken for). This time we had the same but with olives, green peppers and onions on half the pizza (son doesn't like those). We also remembered (somewhat late) to ask for plates and napkins since we were taking it back to our room. The total for this pizza was just over $16.
I've had great pizza and I've had bad pizza and this is among the best. The thin crust is perfect and I like the sauce. The cheese and meat is good - sausage can be tricky as some places have good sausage and some places have "meh" sausage. Faye's has good Italian Sausage IMO. Wish they were close by but I guess we have good pizza places here so it's good to know there a good pizza joints...
