Edit 2024

After a few years, I wanted to come back and see if the vibe had changed. It seems better now, service was quick, and the root beer, coney dog and fries were amazing. It definitely seems closer now to what it was in the past, and for this, I’m happy to amend my review. I do miss the hanging menus, though!

As a fan of Dog 'n' Suds for many years, I loathe leaving a review like this but after thinking about it for the last day, I think it is still worth telling why I believe this place is a shadow of its former self.

My dad and I look forward to going every year, and yesterday would have been the first of perhaps many trips, but the absence of care of customers left a bad feeling that was tough to shake. Dad and I got there and it was crowded, we expected it to be busy so no surprises there. But as time went on we realized that after placing our order people were coming, eating and leaving without us being checked on once. We were parked right by the kitchen next to the windows, so we were the first car they working see upon going in and out of the doors. We are patient customers that love supporting business, so after about 20 minutes we asked for a follow up on our order. They said they'd check on it, and we were fine waiting a little longer.

Not only did they not ever come back, they stopped even looking at us when they came out. The woman that took our order continued walked orders out to cars that were there almost a half hour after we arrived. She walked around with a tray looking lost and I asked "excuse me? Is that ours? We've been waiting 40 minutes" to which she realized and handed off to a car that had arrived only 5-10 minutes before. We kindly handed back our ticket and left.

Over the past few seasons, organization here has gotten rough, and Covid-19 aside, it still feels like they are just going through the motions these days. I hate to see a place like this go, especially as it is such a staple of our area and my growing up, but the issues keep growing here and it is a shame.

1 star because of nostalgia, and 1 star because I know the food is great, I just wasn't able to get any in an almost hour of waiting and some less than ideal visits in the...

Ok, where do I start! This place USE to be good, but this year it has gone down hill and it JUST opened! I was just there like an hour ago for a pick up order, they screwed up 3 items! I ordered 2 Footlongs with Stadium Mustard, they put yellow mustard...I ordered a side of Breaded Mushrooms, Never Got Them...Ordered Side of Onion Rings, Never Rung Up! Mind you I am a 20 min drive to pick up and 20 min drive back home! I call them and ask for a manager, Irene the owner answers and then puts the girl who screwed up my orders on the phone....REALLY! She tells me to come back up and they will replace them...Um...No...I just drove 40 mins and want a credit...They don’t give Credits she says...I said I am not driving another 40 mins for Mushrooms! She says well we don’t give credits so you either have to come get them or I don’t know! Wow...real Customer Service there...so basically because they screwed up and you don’t drive all the way back up there you just gave them free money! When you don’t accommodate your customers due to your neglect or fault you no longer get my business! Note to everyone...Check your boxes before pulling away or you just gave them free money! They don’t care about...

My fiance and I ate here at the end of May sometime and will never go back. We parked on the side of the building where you can see everything inside and were disgusted by the things we seen. We watched an employee take a used styrofoam cup, swish it in their three sinks(probably different chemicals in each), dry it, and put it back in the stack of cups. Also, their glass cups, it seems that they don't scrub them, they just swish them in three sinks and put them up to dry. The fries sat their the entire time we were there and when someone ordered some, the cook would finger through (with gloves) them to find the warmest ones. My fiance ordered some before we noticed this and they were disgusting and not hot of course. I ordered the fried pickles and they were inedible. They were soggy and again, not hot. There was so much grease in them, there was a pool of grease at the bottom of the paper bag they were in. I set them on my dashboard and there was grease everywhere. Nothing was hot, just warmed. My son got the mozzarella sticks and the cheese was not melted at all. Just warmed. Dinner Bell in Elyria is extremely better. Hot food. Not greasy...

Iv been coming to dogs n suds for 20+ years. It's amazing that I could take my little one to something that I enjoyed so much growing up. But the menu is becoming a little bit disappointing they no longer have the veggie basket. Which was honestly one of my only reasons for this side to the root beer floats. And the pricing of food there has became a lot more expensive. To feed two adults and one child cost $52. And that's for two burgers and a grilled cheese with sides. I honestly don't know if I will be going back due to the pricing and do to them not having the veggie baskets no more. I do know the previous owner did pass away and is now taken on by relatives. But the food was so much better and so was the pricing before the previous owners passed. The staff there was polite and fast at service. You have to ask for tomato and lettuce on your $8 to $9 Burger. They do not come with it. And they also put no sauce on the burgers. I honestly feel like if they were to go back to the original pricing of the menu and the original menu they would be getting a lot more service. But $52 to feed three people is outrageous

Since Dog n Suds has opened for the season we've been there at least once a week so far. It's one of our favorite places to come for lunch. We love the old fashioned vibe and the food though simple, is AMAZING. My go to is a coney dog and a sloppy joe (with mustard per the recommendation of one of the super nice waitresses) which brings me to my next point which is the waitresses ...they are SO friendly and nice ...it's honestly always a great experience..going there is one of my summertime guilty pleasures...Honestly there aren't too many local little restaurants that offer a quick, hassle-free, reasonably priced meal but Dog n' Suds definitely does! We love bringing our daughter also, she loves chicken nuggets and fries! And my husband orders the char burger which is sooooo good. BEST waitresses, BEST food and BEST service.

Dog n' Suds is a old fashion throw back to the traditional car side eating experience. It is very much a guilty pleasure dining experience. You won't find a top 5 best burger you've ever eaten, but you will find a consistent meal at a very reasonable price. I had the Texas Burger. It has a blend of two unique sauces almost as if you combined special sauce and Coney sauce on two separate patties. The fries were thick with a potatoey center. The real star however was the Root Beer. Served in a frozen glass mug, the root beer was smooth with a creamy vanilla after taste. I also appreciated the owner stepping outside to interact with the kids. She was a sweetheart for taking some time to do that. I will be back to try other items from the menu, particularly the footling Coney dog, and to sample another mug of root beer.
