Orient Express — Restaurant in Shelby Charter Township

I ordered food from Orient Express last evening. The order was Crab Rangoon,Hot -n- Sour soup, Wonton soup, and Szechuan Chicken. The restaurant was pretty dirty in the inside. The food total was around $20, which is a little high for the above items. The staff was not the most helpful and was impatient with any questions. The food was ready when expected. The food was horrible, my family hated it. The crab rangoon lacked any flavor and came with only four in the order. Most places have 6-8. The sauce with it was a very thick orangey color and came out as a glob if you tried to pour it. The wonton soup broth was so watered down that it had no taste at all. There were around 3 normal size noodles in the soup but they tasted all doughy. I did not find ANY meat in the noodles. The hot and sour soup was equally terrible. The szechuan chicken wasn't any better. Although there was a good amount of vegetables in the stir fry, and I ordered it Medium Spicy, it lacked any flavor and the chicken was horrible. There was large pieces of grizzle in the meat, the meat was very dry, and was difficult to eat. We ended up tasting a bite of everything but throwing the entire order out. I would not recommend this restaurant at all and will not ever go...

I don't know why I subject myself to this place as they cannot seem to get my order correct. Last time was the joy of getting home five miles later only to open my sweet and sour chicken to find it was only chunks of battered chicken - no rice, no vegetables, not even sweet and sour sauce.

This time there was something in the bag but not at all what I ordered. I had asked for Khao Pad Prik (Thai fried rice with pineapple, basil, peas, and carrots) and what I got was a container full of mushrooms, celery, and zucchini in a brown gravy - it's like they knew the exact three things I like least and tried to feed it to me. When I called to make sure they didn't give my order to someone else, they dug up my ticket and told me, "No, that's what you ordered."

As a side note: while I was there waiting for my order someone called in to say that when they got home they had no meat in whatever they had ordered.

Save yourself the headache and find...

Quite tasty food and generous portions at reasonable prices. But two factors prevented this from getting 5 stars:

1. One of the dishes we got in our carryout was so filled to the brim with sauce that it overflowed and soaked the bottom of the bag with sauce. Our order also included brown rice, but we received white rice instead.
2. There's a 4% surcharge for payments on card. Credit and debit cards charge a fee, so I understand that. What I don't understand is why I couldn't find this on their website or on the phone, and I discovered this when I actually went in to pay for and pick up the food. It's a bit of an unfair tactic, especially when it's so close to a lot of senior living spaces in which the inhabitants are likely on a fixed income.

Good overall, but pay with cash if possible and make sure your order has what you asked for...
