Where do I even begin with Pink Garlic. The second we walked in, our host immediately welcomed us, and took us to our table with no wait or hesitation. After they had realized we had never been to this location, or any Indian cuisine restaurant, they warmly offered us any assistance with deciding what to order, or if we needed anything explained to us. Not only were we immediately seated, our waiter unraveled our napkin & silverware sets, set our plates, and presented a very modern and artistic warming plate for our dishes to be set on when they arrived to the table. Even though we didn't order any appetizers, the owner brought us complimentary (what I believe to be, and please correct me if I'm wrong because they were absolutely delicious), onion bhaaji, alongside with 3 different sauces to try. Shortly after enjoying such a delicacy, our dishes were promptly brought out with minimal wait time, and very generous portion sizes. We had ordered the chicken tikka masala, the butter chicken, and two different types of naan. Everything that I had the privilege of trying for the first time exceeded every expectation I had walking in the doors of the establishment. The flavors were bold, the spice level was perfect, the rice was nice and fluffy and perfectly complimented each main dish. Near the end of our meal, I had seen a mango smoothie like drink in the cooler, and asked our host if he would be able to pour me a cup. After expecting a regular cup, I received the most luxurious mango & yogurt smoothie I have ever tried. Perfectly blended, served in a fancy glass, it perfectly rounded the entire dining experience. Once we had finished our meal, the owner came out and asked us how everything had tasted, if there were any issues or if we needed anything else in general. He even offered us warm towels to wipe our hands/faces with after the fact, and began to talk with us about the other establishments he runs, and the journey he has been on in order to make such a name for himself. The passion the owner has for his craft and his community can't be found anywhere else you go. By keeping his prices more affordable than rival restaurants, Pink Garlic is a step above any other experience. Not only on a culinary level, but the hospitality you receive as soon as you walk in the door is unmatched quite literally anywhere else you go. For this being the first time I've ever tried Indian cuisine, I can with confidence say it will surely not be the last, and I cannot recommend this place enough to anyone in a 50 mile range to come...
Read moreWhen we were greeted at the door we knew this would be an experience like no other. The hosts served us with a smile on their faces and delight in every move. The food was exquisite and delicious. My daughter and I shared a couple appetizers and two entrees. We especially loved the hot towels they gave us at the end. We enjoyed a lovely conversation with our host. Definitely coming back.
UPDATE: We have gone back to Pink Garlic a couple more times since the last review and wanted to update our entry. While the food is still excellent, there were a couple of things that stood out that somewhat tainted the overall experience, mainly when it came to the pushy-ness of the manager. On our last visit, we were told by our server that we had several beverage choices. We asked for tap water, which was one of the options that he said would be free. The manager came over and chastised the server for not explaining the options correctly. He then pushed the several specialty drinks until we politely declined and asked for tap water for the table. The water did not come and we had to send my husband to ask for it at the desk. The manager then came with glasses and two big bottles of Smart Water. As my husband and I were hosting a small dinner party, we were not going to send the water back, but noted the obvious bait and switch.
When it came to ordering the food, we ordered mixed appetizers as he suggested. We then proceeded to order the entrees, but then he pushed for us to order more and we had to tell him we were good with what we had but will order more if needed. He lingered just long enough for it to become a little awkward, then left. Throughtout service, the poor server was also chastised for the way he laid down our dishes (we didn't notice anything amiss), where he put down the food, etc. Our friends and young adult kids all look at one another and noted how it'd be scary to work for this manager. We laughed about it, but his behavior toward his employee did cause some discomfort.
Would we come back? If it's only for the food, 100%. But given how we felt the last couple of times because of the pressure to order drinks/more food, and the way our server was treated in front of us, we are a...
Read moreI am trying to find the right words to explain our experience at the Pink Garlic. I will start off by walking into the restaurant, where a gentleman greeted us at the door, holding it open. We were escorted to our table, which was decorated beautifully and elegantly. The decor is cute, somewhat feminine and delicate, and very clean. The staff was excellent, making us feel like princesses. They were so attentive and kind. If you order water, you get a large bottle that they bring to the table and fill your glasses with; the water is not free, but I appreciate that it is clean bottled water, not tap. We ordered vegetarian samosas, which come in a quantity of two, enough for my daughter and me. They are delicious and made fresh. They brought us three different sauces to try with them, all of which were very good and distinct in taste. After we ate our appetizer, they cleared the table and brought us clean silverware to use for dinner. Then our waiter came with a rolling tray table with our food. They place a hot plate down and your food on top to keep it warm. The food was so delicious, definitely made with love. They checked on us frequently, each time with a smile. After we finished, they came with the rolling tray table and wrapped up our food. We had a small conversation about the restaurant and other locations. The kind gentleman told us about one opening in Grosse Pointe and possibly other places. Our bill shocked us because it was so affordable. I could not believe that the five-star service, on top of the great food for the two of us, was only $39. And before I end my long story of our visit, the naan bread was incredibly delicious. They said they make everything fresh, made to order, with no frozen food, and use organic product. We paid our bill, thanked them, and a kind young man saw us out, holding the door open for us. Every single one of them was a gentleman. Just wow! Thank you for an unforgettable experience. We cannot wait to...
