For those who knew my grandma, she never turned down ice cream. So while in town last week for her funeral, my friend suggested we visit Amy & Alex's Homemade Ice Cream and Coffee. I'm not usually a huge ice cream person, but it felt like the perfect way to honor her.
The shop itself was bright, clean, and welcoming, with several people already enjoying their treats. We grabbed a high table by the front window, which made for some great people-watching while we indulged.
The menu immediately caught my eye. The range of flavors wasn't just broad--it was creative, unique, and full of options you don't see every day. That foodie spark kicked in, and I knew I had to go with a flight so I could taste a few. (Brilliant idea, by the way--four little cups of different flavors!)
Our picks were:
Grilled Lime Burnt Honey
Crunchy PB Jelly
Espresso Mascarpone Lemon Biscotti
Brown Butter Pecan & Praline
Each scoop came with a color-changing spoon (such a fun touch), and every flavor was creamy, consistent in texture, and absolutely delicious. My favorites were a tie between the Espresso Mascarpone (though I think it could stand strong without the lemon biscotti) and the Brown Butter Pecan & Praline. The Grilled Lime Burnt Honey was bright and unique, and the Crunchy PB Jelly was tasty but leaned a bit sweet for me.
Overall, this was some of the best ice cream I've had--flavorful, high-quality, and true to its name. Add in the kind, helpful staff and the clean, cozy atmosphere, and it made for a really special stop.
I left not just with a happy palate, but also with a new tradition: every year on August 22, I'll seek out a new ice cream spot in honor of my grandma. Amy & Alex's was the perfect...
Read moreI hope my experience helps anyone with a business. I visited this little ice cream place this week as I’d heard the ice cream is really good. Upon walking in, I noticed a young lady standing by the register. She simply stared at me with a deer in headlights look. She never smiled or spoke. I made my way a few steps past her to the ice cream area where a gentleman greeted me with the biggest smile and asked if he could help. I asked for a sample since this was my first time there and he respectfully said they do not do samplings. I am from a rather large city, and I am accustomed to places doing that. Organic homemade or not. I was a little surprised but understood, they are a small business and they have their reasons and it’s OK. My recommendation would be to put up a sign; that way they are not bombarded with the same sample question and the customer doesn’t feel bad about asking in the first place. I walked to the register and the young girl/lady still stared as she took my payment. No thank you no come again. No smile. I choose to go with perhaps she was star struck by my exotic beauty. Or something else. I’ll never know. The ice...
Read moreThis was our first visit and unfortunately it's also our last. Drove 45+ mins to specifically try this place. SUPER disappointed. They offer multiple "specialty" flavors but they don't do samples which is insane. I have never been to an ice cream establishment that doesn't offer samples because they usually want their customers to enjoy their purchase. Not offering that just tells me that as long as they have their money, they don't care about my satisfaction. Limit the samples per person if you must but just to not do it is just a terrible business decision. They also didn't have my 1st OR 2nd choice of flavor available (butter pecan/ dulce de leche). Wanted to try the toasted coconut as a 3rd but I'm not a fan of the texture of coconut shreds so I wasn't sure I'd like it. I left without purchasing anything for myself. The two young ladies working the front also came off colder than the ice cream itself- no greeting, no warmth. A positive is that I dont have to worry about driving that distance to go here ever again or recommending them to...
