Sweetport — Restaurant in Shreveport

I have been to dozens of ice cream parlors in my life at this point. Most of them are up in the North East with some sprinkled around SC and FL. Maybe I'm unaccustomed to the "local" North LA style of Ice Cream.... but this by far is single-handedly the WORST ice cream I have ever had from a local ice cream stand. There about as minimal cream in this mixture as you can possibly get. It's a sugar ice with some dairy concoction.... Breyers off the supermarket shelf is better for Pete's sake. I should've known walking in as well.... the place was EMPTY at 7 pm. In my experience most ice cream shops are packed at this time. Don't waste your time or money here. I was excited to try Sweetport. It was extremely busy, which I took as a good sign. I was so wrong. Our family had 3 different scoops and none of them were that good. The young lady working seemed so overwhelmed but was trying her best I suppose.

They have an odd business model in terms of serving. They collect a group of orders, say 6 or 7, and then make those instead of taking and fulfilling one order at a time. I waited at least 25-30 minutes for 3 scoops of ice cream.

It wasn't creamy. It's more icy like as though the fat content is low and slightly over churned. They were out of the flavor I went for, but the one I ended up getting was the worst of the three flavors we got.

The architecture of this place is beautiful and true to Shreveport's history in the mid-century modern scene. Just being in the space of the building (and outside on the great turf patio) was enjoyable. The menu is full is classics and Southern style ice cream options. The names of many are based on local attractions or locations Shreveport natives will notice instantly. We ordered a double scoop cone and a milkshake, and they were delicious. Topped off with a friendly and helpful staff working diligently to maintain social distancing while both wearing masks and working quickly to create our delectable treats, our visit was overall a magnificent experience....
