This restaurant had been here for at least 30+ years. I used to lunch here when I worked at the local dentist Dr. Sugar. Not much has changed really. Some paint, some lite decor additions/changes in the wait staff is about all that is really different. The menu surprisingly seems quite similar to what I remember.
They have a large amount of sandwiches, gyro's, burgers. About 6-8 Salads . Their menu features Pasta, fried seafood , hamloaf, pork chops, a few staeks, hamburger steaks. (They do serve breakfast)
I ordered the Hamburger steak with gravy on the side. It came with rolls and butter and 2 sides for $10.95. My hamburger steak was a generous portion. My sides we're a salad and fries. My meal was acceptable. It was warm, fast, the plates and silverware were clean.
My father ordered the hamloaf. That however was not good. It had to be sent back because it looked to be fried and burnt , placed burnt side down on the plate. He got 5 small pieces. They we're about the size of a club cracker plus one inch. I was a bit shocked as I would have thought it would be like meatloaf. When his new plate returned he only had 3 pieces. He was not happy but we were on a time deadline, and decided to just eat and get out.
My mother ordered pork chops. She got one pork chop. It was a big size. However it was very fatty. She lost about 1/3 of the size due to the bone and fat.
Our waitress was good and friendly. For the price of the hamloaf vs. the portion he did get. Not worth the money. Same with the pork chop dinner. Dinners here range from $10.95 - $19. You can tell this restaurant in older.
I am from York, pa. My parents from Stewartstown, Pa. We ate here because we had an appointment in Shrewsbury, pa. Would I eat here again? Yes if I had too! Would I travel to eat here if I didn't have an...
Read moreThis place is definitely a step above all the other local family restaurants & diners in the York/MD area. We were greeted at the door by a very friendly hostess who ushered us to a very comfortable booth. After placing our drink orders I walked through the dining area and noted how well maintained & clean this facility appears. My iced tea drink actually had a good amount of tea flavor, a very nice precursor to my upcoming meal. I started my meal with an order of onion rings. When they were delivered to our table I was very pleasantly surprised to see that they were prepared fresh with a beer batter & fried to delectable perfection. Most family restaurants & diners use breaded onion rings from the frozen section at Sams or BJ's, so having freshly prepared onion rings was another plus for this restaurant. I then moved on to the fish tacos I had ordered. I normally would not order seafood in a family restaurant because I'm pretty much guaranteed to be served something nasty that's been sitting in a freezer for the last six months, but the fish in my tacos was actually very flavorful AND was not overcooked like most restaurants are apt to do with any kind of seafood. Howsumbutever, the toppings of lettuce and tomatoes with a so called "Baja Sauce" that tasted very similar to 1000 island salad dressing were very disappointing and uninspired to say the least. I would highly suggest using cotija cheese, chipotle aioli sauce, pico de gallo, and some cole slaw that is not overly moist. All in, we will definitely be back to dine here again next time we are in the area. I saw a few other items on their menu that I would...
Read moreVisiting family in the area, my wife and I along with Brother-in-law and two nieces headed to Mason Dixon after high recommendations from family. We arrived mid morning so much of the breakfast crowd had gone and we were seated right away.
Brought menus, waters, and coffees as we perused the choices. My wife went with her usual Omelette, this time with the #28 Super Omellette. Bro ordered the #8 with Bacon, Eggs and Hotcakes. The two nieces chose the #3 with Eggs & Scrapple, and the #5 Cheese Omellette with Bacon. This time I was in the mood for biscuit & gravy so my selection was #13 Breakfast Casserole with Eggs, Country Gravy, and Cheese over a Bisquit.
About a steaming cup of coffee later, our orders came. Before entering the nieces went next door to convenience store and filled a small coffee cup with French Vanilla creamer. All the meals were great, the eggs were great and pancakes soft and fluffy. My eggs were perfectly cooked and my biscuit had a good amount of tasty gravy over it. The only Con was my one niece stated her Scrapple was not as crisp as usual, so she brought it home to crisp up later. The other niece saved a good part of her meal to take also.
Altogether an excellent meal and good service but a bit loud as we were seated beside a table of six men talking loudly. So many choices, you will find...
