Peking — Restaurant in Sikeston

This restaurant used to have the freshest and most flavorful Chinese cuisine in town. That being said, quality of their food has fallen off the face of the earth, as far as I am concerned. I ordered Sesame Chicken, only to be met with fried chicken tossed in corn syrup. No other flavor to speak of -- literally just sugar. The rice had no upside, as it was bland, toothsome and overcooked. The sides of crab rangoons and egg roll were all burnt. The only redeeming quality was the chicken on a stick, which I must say, is consistently tender and flavorful. Although they were cold, they still were tolerable, unlike the "sesame" chicken.

There needs to be some authorities looking into their labor practices, as not only do some of their cooks not know what they are doing, but they are also having children working there. I understand the whole "small business, family-owned" thing, but to have children doing tasks that the other adult employees should be partaking is unjust, and compromises the performance of the business. After driving 11 hours we felt like Sesame Chicken and Mongolian beef would be a safe, filling choice. We also ordered one egg roll and 3 crab Rangoon. OMG - the cashew chicken was horrible. It was like grocery store, deep-fried chicken nuggets with the sauce that had no flavor and just a few cashews. The Mongolian beef was bland with very little flavor and like cornstarch brown gravy. The egg roll was good and the crab Rangoon was decent. The fried rice was like overcooked instant rice with some brown coloring that didn’t even give it any flavor. What a disappointment. I'm so extraordinarily confused as to how this restaurant has such high ratings. Please, please be ware. We were passing through the state and were trying to find decent Chinese cuisine. Well, I'll spare you the extra details and just summarize by saying that the location is terribly frightening, the interior is extremely unclean, the food was completely void of flavor, and we were misquoted on the price.
