T and J's Cafe — Restaurant in Slidell

Aces! I eat out more than most. Ever since I moved from Vegas to Slidell I have yearned for a good burger. Finally, on Tuesday I consumed their Rodeo Burger(13.00). Double patties topped with homemade onion ring, barbeque sauce, bacon, and cheddar cheese. It was awesome! We went there on the recommendation of my best friends' sister in law who works for Southside, one of the prime dine out places in Slidell. My best friend had the Debris Burger ($13.00). It's a single patty smothered with roast beef and gravy with swiss cheese. He's a great cook himself and nodded his approval of what he had consumed. I asked for the cook to come out of the kitchen When she did I complimented her. Also spoke with the young owner. If they continue to serve quality it's going to be a big hit. I returned on Wednesday and had a 5-inch Po-Boy on a bun because I don't eat large portions. I'm planning on returning Thursday. Why? Their special will be meatloaf, one of my favorites. I do not recommend this place at all!! After traveling for nine hours we decided to stop and eat lunch at T and J's cafe. The first thing that bothered us was the tip at 22% being expected up front at the counter. Then we received our food - my food had no seasoning at all and was covered in what appeared to be instant gravy. The mashed potatoes were probably instant potatoes as well. Then they mopped an area of the floor at the front door and beside our table and a customer fell down very hard and spilled his drink everywhere. After all of this, the uptight man working behind the counter came to my table in front of everyone in the restaurant accusing my wife of "breaking the law" because she gave her service dog a piece of dog food. Well, we had enough of the jerk acting like the dog police so we left. The only nice thing about the whole visit was the nice lady who took our order and served us. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was great ,but the wings need some work . They were extremely rubbery and needed some seasoning . My husband had the BBQ wings and he said the sauce was amazing but the chicken itself was not good. I had the garlic Parmesan wings as well as the Buffalo (5/5) not so good. If I could give any recommendation I would say season the chicken, batter it , drop it in some grease then sauce the wings real good . Practice makes permanent! I will most definitely be back to try something different because majority of the people around us were eating breakfast items as well as sandwiches and it looked pretty appetizing.
