Bella Artisan Bakery — Restaurant in Smithfield Township

The breads here are absolutely delicious! The word "artisan" is applied loosely when it comes to bread, but the loaves here are truly works of art, made with love. Rosemary sourdough, three seed, sourdough rye, croissants (regular as well as croissants filled with chocolate, etc.), little pizza/flatbread creations with mushrooms, or onions and herbs, rolls..... Another family member makes lovely little Polish cookies and desserts, which I regretfully didn't try because I had purchased more bread than one woman should eat in a weekend. I did bring home homemade frozen pierogis for dinner. Unfortunately we were passing through or I would make this a weekly haunt. We were shocked as we walked through the front door of Bella Artisan Bakery and immediately realized that this is a Polish market and bakery. WHOO HOO! We were in the area on vacation, and had we known about this place we would have brought our big 200 quart Yeti 250 cooler so that we could load up on all of the delicious Polish foods and bakery items that are for sale here. We were looking at a 4 hour+ drive home, so we removed the soda pop drinks from the smaller 30 quart travel cooler we had brought and loaded it with frozen Polish foods. We also bought 3 bags full of fresh made breads and sweet bakery items. Oh my goodness how I wish that this business could be located near our house near the PA/MD line...

I so wanted to love this place. I got two different pastries. One apple based and one peach based. They are pictured in the display case in the photo. One was second row from bottom on the left. They were pretty tasteless and bland. One of them had a nice crumb topping but that was about it. Thought it might have been just me but my wife said “they weren’t worth the calories”. They weren’t cheap either. The breads looked great but I didn’t get a chance to buy any. I’ll try them the next time. Shop was clean and cozy. Staff was friendly...
