You must be of the right ethnicity, or you will not have a good experience at this restaurant, I thought it was my imagination, but after 3-4 incidents I realize that racial discrimination is alive and well in 2014 at SHINANO!!! I have had the misfortune of frequenting this establishment about 10+times within the last 6 months. SILLY ME... The first time I went the restaurant had approximately 20-25 people. I was seated at a table with a pole in front, I asked if I could be moved, the owner said no, she gave me this ridiculous story that all the tables were reserved. I was there 1 1/2 hours and the restaurant was still relatively empty. There was no reason I couldn't have been placed somewhere else. To make a long story short, the food is good, but they charge you extra for little things like soy sauce, every little thing you ask for is extra. Two week before Christmas I asked if I could buy gift certificates, the owner said they were out of them (FOR REAL). I went Saturday night, and the owner greets every customer in the building yet walks past my table 5 times without ever acknowledging my presence. My only conclusion after they messed up my order and served my appetizer (sushi) at the end of my meal and charged me a $1.00 for ponzu sauce= soy +vinegar, I won't return. The owner's niece is wonderful, but it's not enough to subject my self to ill- treatment like that. Please forgive me for this long review. but I just had to get this...
Read moreThe reason I give one star is its HYGIENE problem and the poor way the manager treats her customers. The restaurant was pretty empty when I went there for lunch. After ordering and receiving the teriyaki fish bento box, I took a picture of the meal to send to a friend. Unfortunately, as I was about to eat, I noticed the plate was very dirty. I brought this to the attention of the server, who apologized and offered to make the food again. The second time, I noticed something odd: the same piece of fish and the same rolls had merely been transferred to a new place. I just happened to have a photo of the first time the food was served and confirmed with the waitress that the same exact food had in fact on the second plate. The waitress apologized again and took the second plate to kitchen. After a few minutes, an old woman came to me said that they ate my food and they wouldn’t cook another meal for me. Then she asked me to leave. Shocked, I asked to speak to a manager, only to find out that she IS the manager! I will never consume food at a restaurant that doesn’t take hygiene seriously. Would you want to eat at an establishment that kicks out a customer who simply asks to eat off of a...
Read moreAte lunch here today and I was overjoyed. It's very hard to find an actual authentic Japanese restaurant in Ohio, and a lot of people seem to think a place is "authentic" and then I see Pad Thai (Thailand) or Bibimbop (Korea) or even General Tso Chicken (China) on the menu and my soul dies a little. Well, not so with this place. Japanese family owned and the food was absolutely delicious and took me back to the island of Okinawa! The sushi chef, a nice Ojiisan, even hand grilled the Unagi (Eel) sushi I ordered. So glad I stumbled on this place on my way to a work call I had, while helping in the Cleveland area. Highly recommended! Pictured are Nama Sake (Salmon), Maguro (Tuna), and Unagi (Eel) sushi (Nigiri). Agedashi Tofu, and Japanese Chicken Curry. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Will...
