Em's Subs — Restaurant in Somerset

I NEVER leave reviews because I don’t have time with my busy life. I see all these great reviews about this restaurant and I checked twice to make sure I had the right one. We live an hour away from here and have been here before. We were in the area so we stopped for dinner. Sign on window said open. Hubby and I walked in, guy at the counter immediately said you can’t get anything hot while waving his hands. I said ok. We just wanted 2 cold simple sandwiches. He said I’m just telling you I close in 10 minutes. I said do you want us to leave and he reluctantly said no. He took our order and was doing something with the register the whole time while the girl made the sandwiches. We went to leave and I said have a good evening and neither replied. We were out to our car by 5:58 so we weren’t even in there past closing time. Hubby realized he forgot to return the bathroom key. He said when he went thru the door the guy said “please don’t tell me you’re here to order food”. Hubby said “No, I’m returning the bathroom key”. He laid the key on counter and walked out. Hubby and I have worked for over 35 years and all of the jobs required Customer Service skills. I’m sure we would have been fired for acting this way. Extremely disappointing, overpriced sub and very, very rude service. We ordered an Italian sailor and a turkey grinder. A worker came out and handed us a bag with two Italian sailors. We asked if this was ours and he said yes, so we took it even though we were confused by the size- they were both small. Opened them up, and they were both Italian sailors (pretty sad-looking ones). We brought our confusion to a worker and he expressed doubt and put gloves on, at which point I asked if he was going to look through our subs. He looked up and rudely said, "I have to make sure it's wrong," took mine out of my hand and rummaged through it, then asked for our order number. He took the other sub away from us without apologizing and asked if we wanted to keep the first one he examined. When he walked over with the correct order, which again was very disappointing, he made sure to tell us that it was our fault for taking the wrong order. As an aside, he seemed rude to his coworkers as well. We just wanted to support a local business on our way home to Philadelphia, but wow...

Went in yesterday for the first time to get my husband a sandwich for lunch. I asked the cashier to make sure I said no dressing on the sandwich because I didn’t see it on the slip and I just wanted to make sure. The older lady on the register snapped back saying that she knows for a fact she put no dressing but they’ll double check because “some people don’t know how to read.” I said it’s okay I trust you it’s all good. She proceeded to take my sandwich out of the bag and ask the girl who made it to check it. I kept saying it was really no big deal and I’ll take my chances… very weird hostile vibes towards co workers and customers. I typically go to a different location and i definitely wouldn’t recommend this one. I understand everyone has bad days.
