Turnpike Tavern — Restaurant in Somerset

We were visiting from MD to ride at Mountain Ridge ATV Park and picked this place since it was near our AirBNB and had decent reviews. The pictures of the flatbread pizza looked promising. When we arrived, we realized that it was a pretty small establishment filled with local regulars. . . which can sometimes be. . . not so great. . . .

We sat at the bar and were greeted by a very personable bartender who took our drink orders. A fella from across the bar made eye contact with my buddy and started a conversation, which led to the other patrons realizing that we weren't locals (uhoh! cover blown!). I was planning to try the flatbread pizza, but the local guy across the bar made a compelling argument for us to try the burgers since they're made from locally grown beef (😆 he was selling those burgers like he gets a kickback for each one sold). There was a burger special that got you a burger with chips for $5, which is a steal of a deal for a handmade paddy, so all three of us ordered the burgers. . .then we discovered the fried cheese curds. . .so we ordered those too. . but we also still wanted to try the flatbread pizza. . . so we ordered a flatbread buffalo chicken pizza too. We were filled up from just the burgers, so we took the pizza to go, but it was consumed before the end of the night. There was also a fella there playing live music (this was a Saturday night) and a bunch of tvs playing different college football games.

Overall, good atmosphere, good service, good local patrons, and good food. What else can you ask for? I guess maybe a bigger stomach? I wish I'd had more room to try some of the hot dog variations too. Maybe next visit.

Stopped for lunch on Valentines Day, and we had a very nice lunch. I had the Black &Bule Burger. It was cooked to perfection and was delicious. My wife got the Cili Ceese Dog. It was a large ¼ pound beef hot dog on a grilled bun, and she surprised me by eating the whole thing. (She is usually a small eater) Both items came with steak fries that were fried crispy, and they were also very tasty. Also, they have a nice selection of daughters beers. We will definitely be going there...

My wife and I stopped in here today because we were looking for a good local place for lunch. Basically, we didn't want the normal turnpike plaza food. This tavern exceeded our expectations.
