Had guru at the Boston Public Library farmers market. I know food prices are getting higher, but I feel like for just a few dollars more, you can gorge at a buffet somewhere. The pakora looked phenomenal but cannot be chosen as a side, which is disappointing. They definitely save money by using tripartite containers and loading basmati rice onto the biggest section. I would definitely consider using them for catering but I also know that Indian grub isn't for everyone. The Farmer's market is in a great spot. You can just eat at the sidewall of the BPS and talk to people. It's a good experience on a nice day and even more so if you're from out of town. As an aside, I don't know why the only two hot food offerings are Indian at the farmer's market. The samosas at the other joint looked like a must try. Update: Visited the location near downtown. It's not bad but definitely a notch below my favorite Indian joints. Good option when...
Read moreFor Indian take out, this place is definitely convenient and tasty. The staff was very nice as other reviews suggest. However, it's hard for me to say that the food is more than average. The best items I had were their lamb, veggie samosas and potato dishes. The samosas were delicious (the dough was super flaky) but the inside was sort of lukewarm. I wish it had been hot! The potatoes were my favorite as they were so savory and spicy! I also ordered their palak paneer and tomato based paneer. These two dishes were good but not as fresh or complex as I've had at other places. An interesting lemon/lime soda (that I picked up because I had never had it before) complimented the dish as it had undertones of tamarind. My bf ordered a mango lassi, which was good. By far the most disappointing part of our meal was the naan. It's the part of my Indian food that I always look forward to the most and theirs is like a whole...
Read moreGuru has delicious Indian food. I started going there over a decade ago in college, and loved their combo platters and mango lassis. I've gone a lot over the past several years, and their food is always flavorful, fresh, and reasonably priced. A combo plate will feed me for 2-3 meals, or my partner and I will share one. We often get 2 combo platters and share the 4 dishes it comes with, along with the deliciously spiced basmati rice and the bread and pickles that come with.
Some of my favorite dishes to get are the chicken madrash / madras, palaak paneer, chicken tikka masala, and any kind of daal they serve (usually tadka daal, but they mix it up). Love that their menu varies and there is usually something new to try.
Love supporting a small business that is so delicious and hope they stay for...
