Before I go into too much detail about my experience at Copper Rock Steakhouse South Bend, I just want this to be known. I did not come here for a special occasion. Myself and my best friend came here on a whim, just to see what it was like.
Personally I dragged my feet a little bit coming to this specific casino because the last time I was here before the Covid-19 epidemic, I made the unfortunate decision to try their weekday buffet which was free as a reward for me, and too be honest, not only was it easily the worst buffet I ever had, but it was among the worst food I ever had period and that rubbed me the wrong way considering how much money that this casino brings in on a daily basis.
I came into this fine-dining restaurant with one question in my mind. "Does this casino care about their food quality at all?"
I stood corrected, Copper Rock was actually very good!
Right away myself and my friend were enthralled by the elegant yet modern-minimalist decor. It helped provide with a very relaxing environment.
The service was a highlight during the visit, I didn't get the name of the waitress, or I honestly don't remember but she was very friendly with the both of us and even made recommendations to us. Very professional.
The breads they gave us were all unique in their own ways, a little rustic but not too over complicated. Might I add here I personally thought the Asiago garlic spread that was provided was one of the highlights culinary wise.
Then came the Lobster Bisque. I'm not going to deny myself when saying that lobster bisque is one of my favorite foods, period. Considering my initial hesitation because of my fear of their food quality I was in doubt about how amazing this soup was going to be. Smooth, a little heat in the back, some sweetness, it had everything I would ever want in that soup and more. Definitely worth the 14$ and a return trip alone.
Now did anything hold back the experience? Yes.
While my best friend thoroughly enjoyed his filet migion, i was left somewhat dissatisfied with my 55 day bone in ribeye. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad although I had one bite that was overcooked and tasted like unseasoned beef, the rest of it I thought was cook in comparison to other steaks I have had in the past. My issue is was it worth 79$? I don't think so.
Overall this was a great form of redemption on the part of Four Winds South Bend to get me interested in making the hour long journey to come back. Perhaps on my next trip I won't go for the most expensive steak, but rather the true stars, the starter dishes. Perhaps I will branch further and find more...
Read moreThis could easily be a five star rating from our visit on 2/3/25. The good: Atmosphere is beautiful, our waitress (Sumi) was wonderful, drinks were fantastic, love the various breads and spreads offered, appetizers were good, shrimp/lobster pasta was delicious, and the beignets at the end were a pleasant surprise!
However, we made a reservation over a week in advance since it was our anniversary. It was a Monday so we knew it would be slow anyway. I give the host my name and am greeted with a “Nope” in regard to my reservation. Meanwhile, there are about 40 tables available anyway. I give him a different name it might be under and just get another “nope” so I show him my phone that shows the confirmed reservation at this location. He doesn’t really say anything then takes us back and welcomes us. We had never been here, so immediately didn’t feel welcomed at all. Secondly, I ordered a filet for $60 and requested no more than medium, emphasizing a pink center, and it came out burnt to a crisp on the outside and terribly dry in the middle. Obviously cooked at way too high of heat, so that was disappointing. We spent a lot of money here, so we just wish we had a better experience. We hope to try again...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible. I have worked in fine dining for awhile that is just as “classy” as copper rock is supposed to be. This was not fine dining. It took us 30 minutes to even SIT down when I called and made a reservation days before. Mind you...it wasn’t even busy. They had tables open. We ordered a bottle of wine and a jack and coke. We didn’t even get the jack and coke for 20 minutes. Our water glasses were empty a few times. I poured my own wine the entire time. The steak was WAY over cooked and our waitress was no where to be found. She was very slow and forgetful. I never leave reviews but paying over $220 for a meal I am VERY upset. I also let the waitress know to get a manager and the manager never even came over. I will never go back and this will be known to all friends and family as the worst dining experience I’ve ever had and I feel terrible for my fiancé because it was his BIRTHDAY. from the time we sat down to the time we got our steak was 2 and a half hours....
