Odd Fellows Tavern — Restaurant in South Berwick

I walked in and was greeted and immediately told there was a wait. No miss no fuss. I appreciate the upfront direct situation it was great. Even though I couldn't sit you could hear the enjoyment in the room. People eating and drinking and smiles everywhere it was apparent everyone was enjoying themselves. The host was most gracious and when I stood there looking around I noticed the servers talking to their customers and really connecting and instilling that local vibe.

I came back and where there was a wedding party I was allowed to sit and wait in the side room as the area was cleared. The wait staff was kind and polite and very willing to help. Hannah came over as soon as I was seated, dropped off some water and asked for a drink and I had it in under 3 minutes.

While it was busy and to a degree that is understandable, unfortunately my pretzel was overcooked and a tad burnt. Now whether that's the kitchen or my server I don't know but I have to be fair. The honey mustard and beer cheese are delicious, there's no covering a burnt pretzel taste.

I ordered the Pig Pen for my main course and frankly it was delicious. The meat lovers more attractive cousin complete with shaven mozzarella and green spring onions I believe. A different server brought it to me but it didn't stop my server from checking me soon after. Approximately 12" on diameter it was perfect to have 3 in house and take 3 home. The meat was cooked thoroughly, no raw or overcooked products, the sauce to cheese ration was balanced, and the crust was crunchy without being burdensome.

An overall lovely atmosphere, good music that didn't make it hard to speak, we'll lit while not being too bright or dim, and a good selection of drinks. Will be...

Food was good but we were our waitresses only table and she was a ghost. She only showed up to the table to take our order and hand us the check so we couldn't order a second round of drinks until everyone was already done. The table across from us ordered, got drinks, got their food, and a second round before we got our first round of drinks. Might have just been the one person since the other table probably had a decent experience. Seems like a hit or miss dining spot depending on the staff and the night.

Update: tried the place again and had the same experience. We were sat at a table not near the bar and they basically forgot us. We watched two tables who were sat, ordered, and served after we had already ordered. Our food never came until I asked for it "To go" because our 3 year old was melting down after 45 minutes of waiting. Took another 10 minutes to suddenly make it, got home and it's all cold, they didn't make the burger as ordered (no tomatoes or onions).

I have to say the only 2 times I was there, it was horrible. First, I ordered a pizza to go, granted they were busy, but when I got it home, it was burnt. Literally, the cheese was hard and black bubbles. It took so long I never ordered a replacement. Inedible. The second time I went in for happy hour and got a margarita for my birthday. The bartender put the total of the bill as a tip, charging me double, I had given her 20%. When I noticed it on my credit statement, the manager (who after 1/2 hr someone finally picked up the phone) said she couldn’t do anything about it and the owner had the next 5 days off. He called after that, leaving a message for a partial refund. Not even the amount I authorized, so I’m still trying to get ahold of him.
