The Early Bird — Restaurant in South Berwick

Passed this place 100 times and finally had time to stop in for breakfast.

I planned on getting a breakfast bagel or burrito at first, but when I saw they had a special breakfast bowl on offer I figured I'd give it a shot and I'm so glad I did. I asked for it to go, which was probably a bit of a pain container wise, but the workers running the show had no problem and made it happen for me.

I went on a short walk around the town while they made it, probably only 10-15 minutes when they also had about 10 other customers so excellent timing even when it's pretty busy inside. I'd probably order ahead next time to make it a bit easier on them as it's quite small inside and the kitchen also looks to be very small.

The staff was awesome and very accommodating, the person at the counter made my green tea SUPER hot which I personally love and made sure to double cup it so I wouldn't have an issues holding it. A nice attention to detail that goes a long way with people I think.

Can't wait to go back because my bowl was shockingly good, I expected your average run of the mill greasy breakfast meat with decently done eggs and some mushy veggies and was 100% wrong. They used awesome fresh crispy peppers, spinach (could have been kale), onions, potatoes which were a mix of sweet and gold and sausage. UP in the NE visiting my kids for Christmas WENT there the other day 12/18 craving breakfast nice quaint little place HOWEVER as I ordered (farm fresh eggs w/a side of fruit) the procedure is u pay immediately (NO PROBLEM) but if u use a card u r IMMEDIATELY HIT UP FOR A TIP RANGING 5-20%. I told the lady (WHO WAS VERY NICE) that I would leave cash as I normally do. As I satdrinking coffee she brought my order and said that the toast was in the toaster and didn't want my order to get cold and the toast would be right out as I started to consume the meal she returned with the toast the b/fast was prepared beautifully but as I raked thru the fruit their was a very long d/Brown HAIR 6"-8" long. SO SORRY BUT THAT'S A DEAL BREAKER. this is why I dislike advanced TIPS. and always leave CASH. it was on a Monday am and went there because BLACK BEAN WAS CLOSED. This place has 2 strikes we me so far 1) advanced TIPS, 2) THE HAIR don't know if I want to experience 3.

We love breakfast at the Early Bird! They serve local coffee with fresh eats. Most breakfast joints are greasy eggs and bacon style.

Early Bird has a refreshing menu where you can get the "typical" breakfast, or something light and fun like crepes with fresh fruit. They have a menu of to-go items like breakfast sandwiches, bagels and smoothies, too.

I love how they contribute to our small downtown. Cara, the owner, has a generous heart and is involved with our community. She always has welcoming, bright and beautiful window displays, so as we drive through town, we get to share in the beautiful scene she's set.

She displays artwork from local artists, giving us something fun to explore and enjoy while we dine, while giving the artists exposure and an opportunity to sell their work.
