Beck's Bar and Grill — Restaurant in South Boston

I went out to eat in my hometown with family. I was told Beck's was a good place to grab food. It is a nice sized place for a bar & grill located in a small strip mall. The bartenders were nice. I'm not really a beet drinker. They had Bud Light and Stella on tap. I followed my uncle's lead and ordered a Stella. The menu was not overwhelming. It offered a good variety of foods. They had unique appetizers for a small town. Cheese Curds, Fried Pickle Spears, and Catfish Bites stood out. We ordered an order of Cheese Curds and an order of Catfish Bites. They were hot and very good. The curds taste like mozzarella sticks but smaller and with less of a cheese pull. The catfish was lightly breaded, hot, and tasted fresh. I contemplated between the Southern Balogna Burger and the Classic Hot Dogs. I have no idea why I went with the 1/3 pound Becks Burger. I'll put it down to being tired from the 12-hour drive over the Thanksgiving holiday. I ordered the burger medium rare with fries. The fried were fresh, and I enjoyed them. The burger is best described as cremated. The medium rare Burger was the victim of a Viking funeral! It was blacker than night! There's char, and then there's coals! I was disappointed in this "the best Burger in town". You know it's bad when I regretted not ordering the Southern Balogna Burger. The beer was good. The appetizers were delicious. My uncle and cousin enjoyed the wings. I wouldn't send their burger to starving hostages. I most likely could've sent it back and got a better burger, but I enjoyed spending time with my family, laughing and joking with the friendly staff. I overall enjoyed the experience. I'll go back. Second Review April 2024 Husband & I stopped in for a drink and appetizers about 7 pm on a Monday night. We ordered our drinks and waited, and waited and I flagged our waitress down so we could order food. I have seen her before so I know she is not brand new. She seemed to be busy vaping beind the bar, chatting with customers, and serving a couple of guys more drinks. We ordered the calimari and cheese steak egg rolls. The egg rolls were ok but could have been cooked just a little longer so they would be hotter. The calimari on the other hand was so over cooked it went from being rubbery to just plain tough. I had hoped in 9 months since I reviewed them they would have improved. They got worse. I'm not sure if I'll go back, at least not for a while. First Review September 2023 Only difference between Beck's and Tailgaters is Beck's menu is a little bigger. The food is the same old stuff, FRIED. Most of what they have is bought breaded and frozen. Service isn't the greatest either. There were only two of us, we ordered together but were served separately. Why? They weren't busy. The other three customers had already been served. We were the only ones left. Husband ordered another beer and I ordered another glass of wine. Beer came, wine was several minutes later. Sat down with my family because I wanted to give the new place a try! The waitress took drink orders and came back and literally poured 2 of the 3 teas and waters on my husband. She then took our order and after about 20 mins my husband's food and my son's food came out. She looked at me and I assumed she was going back to get mine??? Nah, 30 mins later and she still never came back to check on us! She knew mine was never served! There was still no food for me while holding my 6 month old! She never came to check?!?! Another waitress stopped by and asked were we ok and I told her I still didn't have food and to just please cancel my burger because my family was done eating. My husband had to get up and find ketchup and when we asked for a box when our waitress finally came back she still couldn't bring a box! Then he went to the bar to get the ticket and she brought it and sat it on the salad bar instead of bringing it to us! Horrible service, horrible food, but has potential for atmosphere! I gave it a try and won't be back for awhile! Saw a few friends in there and they just text to say they never got food either and are still there waiting! I told them good luck when I left but I was really thinking it would be a 1 time thing? Nope! Don't go until they get it...
