Yamatos Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in South Boston

Great Japanese restaurant that offers take-out and dine in. Today I ordered Double Steak for the lunchtime portion. It was delicious and steak, my side order of vegetables (zucchini, onions, carrots, and broccoli), along with the rice were all cooked to perfection. I always order my steak "well done" and it is cooked well done and tender. So here are some tips to remember for those with food allergies or sensitivities, because Yamatos is very accommodating when you let them know you have an allergy and cannot have certain items. For those with a shrimp allergy, always let them know when placing the order because the dinner time entree portion includes an appetizer of a few grilled shrimp. Also make sure to let them know if you have an egg allergy, because they cook an egg in with the rice. They will leave this out at your request. There side order of vegetables are my favorite so I always order extra. Currently they do not participate with DoorDash, so if you're not dining in then you'll need to go pick up your order. Online ordering is simple, only seems to accept payment at the restaurant though.

Experience was pretty slow, placed my order ahead at around 10:50am for an 11:30am pick-up. Arrived at 11:33am, did not receive food until 11:50am.

Salad was small, but lettuce was crispy and fresh, carrots and cucumber were tasty and ginger dressing was quite good.

With the exception of the white rice (which was very well prepared), the entire hibachi chicken entree was incredibly oily - moreso than any other Japanese restaurant I have ever tried. Portions are large though. Chicken was fair, veggies were a bit overcooked, noodles tasted like everything else, with a bit more sesame flavor. Overall, I could get basically the same meal in any mall food court for roughly half of what it costs here, and have basically the same experience.

I guess it'll fit the bill if you're really craving some Japanese food and don't want to trek over...

Waitress was not attentive at ALL!! Never came to class on us & didn't bring our food out to us. She got one of the other waitress's to bring it to us. They were not busy at all , 2 tables besides me & my daughter. I did not leave a tip because of the poor service and the girl chased me down before I got to my car asking where her tip was!!! I told her "not today" TWICE! She turned around and said "Well, next time I'll just add $1.00 to your bill". I sat in my car for about 2 min and thought she must really need this $1.00, so I walked back inside to give it to her & she "hid" from me & wouldn't come out to get her dollar or to speak with me!! I will NEVER be visiting this...
