A Disappointing Decline from Creative Charm to Mediocre Monotony:
Once upon a time, this bakery in Burlington, Vermont, offered more than just desserts — it delivered a sense of personalization and care that made every customer feel valued. I remember fondly ordering a custom birthday cake, paying cash upon pickup, and marveling at the accuracy and craftsmanship. It was a process that felt personal and thoughtful, a rarity in an increasingly impersonal industry.
But now, after their move to South Burlington, it seems that's not the only thing that has been snuffed out.
What was once a beacon of bespoke baked goods has devolved into a factory of repetition. The same uninspired cakes, the same predictable desserts—where’s the innovation? Where’s the passion?
This isn’t baking; it’s assembly-line production. No edible gold leaf, no fondant artistry, no infusion of modern trends like floral-infused buttercreams or exotic flavor combinations. Instead of showcasing creativity and evolution, they’re stuck in a time warp, churning out the same tired options.
Where are the flavors that excite and surprise? A pistachio-rose buttercream, a black sesame mousse, or a tangy passionfruit curd could elevate their offerings from ordinary to extraordinary. Instead, they seem content with mediocrity. Even their most "adventurous" options feel dated and dull.
And don’t get me started on the presentation. A cake is as much about visual appeal as taste, yet their lack of artistry speaks volumes. There’s no bold experimentation, no modern elegance—no effort to dazzle the eye before the first bite.
Leadership has clearly lost touch with what made this bakery special in the first place: attention to detail, customer engagement, and a willingness to push the boundaries of flavor and design. They’ve traded a loyal, satisfied customer base for uninspired convenience.
If this bakery wants to reclaim its former glory, it needs to wake up. Add flair, embrace innovation, and reintroduce that personal touch that once set them apart. Until then, it’s a bland, disappointing shadow of what...
Read moreThis place truly deserves 5 stars! I’ve been here so many times, different days, ordered different things and the same things. It is consistently incredible. I’ve never had anything mediocre. I feel like, if a bakery can make really good French macarons, then they know what they’re doing and everything else is going to be fantastic. And…they never disappoint! Generously filled eclairs, flavorful Jamaican hand pies, to die for mini honey bee cake made with honey French buttercream - literally to die for - and dipped in chocolate! I just warmed up a cinnamon roll we brought home yesterday and it was still fantastic, even if I did heat it in the microwave! So crispy and chewy at the same time, yum! Ham and cheese croissant was great. Their hot chocolate isn’t super sweet which I kind of liked while eating something sweet. Their coffee drinks are always on point as well. And I really appreciate that they are not overpriced. I feel like they’re pretty fair compared to a lot of cafes and bakeries in Vermont. I cook and bake for a living too, and I understand how much effort and money goes into food preparation. I love that their cafe is attached to their commercial bakery, I think that helps keep their cafe prices lower. When you’re pulling up to the building, you might question, “am I in the right location?” It kind of looks like “a hole in the wall” place and that is exactly what most of the best places look like! On the inside it’s pretty cute, small and just what you need. Always busy when I go. You can tell it’s a “regulars” spot. The service is always friendly and they ask to heat up your food in their oven/toaster. If they don’t ask for some reason, ask them, it’s worth it on the hand...
Read moreI called to order a cake for my daughter’s wedding shower. Mirabelle’s made MY wedding cake. I developed celiac, and my daughter has it as well: I asked if my original raspberry chocolate mousse cake could be made gluten free; they asked, were able to order me one very similar. I asked for a receipt itemizing what I ordered and when I would pick it up, since I was calling from out of state. After several hours, only a credit card charge. I called back and asked for an itemized receipt - asking for date of pickup and type of cake to be on the receipt. I then received a simple email receipt that said “open cake” and the charge. I called back, was placed on hold, and then disconnected. I called back AGAIN, and reiterated that I would like an itemized receipt with what I ordered, and the pick up date. I was calling 8 weeks out and wanted proof of my order pickup date and that it was the gluten free version. I was told they couldn’t do that on square and “I don’t understand what the problem is.” “We don’t make mistakes.” I asked for a refund because if they don’t see any problems with any of these interactions…..so much...
