Pleasantly surprised to find this gem during a roadtrip! No frills, just fantastic food for amazing value. Huge portions, perfectly cooked seafood. When we pulled upto the restaurant on a Saturday evening around 6pm, there was a large amount of people waiting. We were quoted to have a 30min wait to be seated. However, we only had to wait under 10 mins. Decor was a rustic costal, large dining space with lots of seating. Restaurant was clean. Waitress (Sara?) Was fast, super friendly. Immediately gave us a fantastic basket of hush puppies- best I've had outside of captain Benjamin's in myrtle Beach. We were a party of 4, ordered fried shrimp and scallops, shrimp Alfredo linguini, and broiled shrimp and scallops. The shrimp and scallops i had were massive! Just delicious. None of us could finish our plates. Between being seated and when we left couldnt have been more than 1.5 hours. Also... great prices! Massive plate of perfectly cooked seafood for about 20$/person. Highly recommend if you are in the area. 10/10 for food and service. Also noticed there was a takeout section if you are interested. We will definately be back next roadtrip P.S..... Returned sept 26 2024, waitress was super friendly and great service even though they were closing up early before hurricane helene made landfall. Food was amazing. Zero complaints.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to Captain Steve’s and from my last visit, nothing has changed and that’ great. When you arrive you will see the parking lot full and when you get inside you can expect to wait 10’to 20 minutes depending on how busy they are and they stay busy. The service is impressive considering that they are constantly busy and no pint throughout the evening did our waitress forget about us. The atmosphere is very lively, crowded and hectic but it fades into the background when you enjoying your meal. I ordered the Fries Flounder platter with Fries on the side. The portion size is huge for the cost of the meal. I got 4 pieces of flounder on my dinner plate and let’s say that I didn’t finish my meal. The flounder was cooked and seasoned perfectly and it definitely has a fish fry feel to it. The cole slaw and hush puppies were fresh and delicious and they will bring you as many hush puppies as you want. My daughter ordered the Chicken Alfredo and she loved it. The portion size was enormous and she couldn’t finish it However, she brought it home and finished the next day. Captain Steve’s doesn’t cut corners when it comes to giving you the most for your money and I definitely recommend them for a dinner out for great seafood.

Best thing about this place is the service. Our waitress was perfect. We came here on a Saturday night and the place was packed. She was always around and we never had to ask for anything. Except for the fish that came on my $25 broiled seafood platter. I had to ask her about it bc it was basically non-existent. It was a few mangled pieces of broiled fish underneath a plate full of the broiled baby shrimp. This seemed to be the majority of the seafood platter, baby shrimp. They did taste decent. The manager agreed with my fish problem and they brought me out a new piece. The scallops and jumbo shrimp were great. I got my oysters fried and they were pretty good as well. The fish they brought out was decent. The deviled crab not so much. Hush puppies were good and the side salad as well. Overall, the food was decent to good. I don't mind paying $25 or more for good seafood platters but I didn't feel like this one was worth it. Posted pictures of my platter, as you can see it is covered in little salad shrimp and the fish wasn't visible. I can't say I would return or would recommend it but it wasn't terrible.

I don't recall ever leaving a one-star review for a restaurant before now, but I just had such an unnecessarily negative experience at the Captain Steve's in Fort Mill. I have eaten there many times before with my elderly parents. Today's visit was horrible. Four of us arrived at 4 p.m., but our fifth person was hung up at work and wouldn't be able to come for about 30 minutes (if at all). The hostess refused to seat us until the fifth person arrived. This seemed unusual, but I decided to ask for a table for the four of us. The hostess very rudely informed me that if the fifth person came later that they would not be allowed to dine with us. They would have to dine alone at a different table. They took us to the dining area, and I was shocked to see that the dining area was no more than half full. This did not change the entire time we were there. About 4:30, our fifth person arrived and walked up to our table (since there was no hostess out front) and took a chair from the empty table next to us as he sat down. BTW, all the tables around us were empty the entire time we were there. The server refused to take his order and said he was not allowed to sit with us as it was "restaurant policy." I asked if we could pull the empty table next to us over so he could sit there. I received the same response. I asked if he could sit at the table without pulling it the two feet next to ours. She said he might be able to sit there by himself, but he would have to return to the hostess stand and ask to be seated. BTW, there was no one waiting to be seated, and the hostess was not at the stand. I finally asked to speak with the manager. The server said she would go get her. The server stopped by our table about 5 minutes later and asked if the manager spoke with me. I told her that she had not. She left to get her again, but the manager refused to come to the table. When the server returned later, she said that I could see the manager (Cathy) by going to her office!!!! Obviously, I declined to go to the Cathy's office. Our fifth person was never served any food. He ate a portion of my meal and drank a glass of water that the server finally agreed to bring him. I just don't understand the lack of flexibility and customer service. I really can't comprehend why a manager would refuse to speak with a customer at their table. I could somewhat understand a lack of flexibility on the seating if the restaurant was busy, but this was the least busy I had seen the restaurant on my many Thursday evening visits. Maybe others have had a similar experience and that is why business was slow this evening. We certainly...

Beware, if you choose to eat here make sure you are fully committed for paying for your food, no matter how many times the kitchen royally messes up your order.

I came with my family and my uncle ordered the red snapper blackened. When the food came out they brought my uncle tuna as oppose to the red snapper. We sent it back to the kitchen to be corrected, 15 to 20 minutes later they brought out red snapper however it was not blackened.

At this point I was extremely disappointed. The manager Lori came over and provided the worst customer service recovery I have ever seen. Lori stated it was our servers fault and our server should have advise us to order the red snapper grilled and blackened in order for the food to be what we desired. I was extremely disappointed as Lori the manager refused to hold the kitchen accountable for once again messing the order up. The lack of accountability did not stop there, this went all the way up to the owner, Steve. On the way out I expressed to Lori my extreme disappointment for having to pay for food that was knowingly not cooked as ordered. Lori went to grab Steve the owner. Steve stated that it was totally the server fault, she should have advised prior to ordering. Steve mentioned that the server was part time and unfortunately it was her error.

Not once did Lori or Steve ever hold the kitchen responsible or accountable for the red snapper being not cooked as ordered. Since my uncle refused on sending his food back for a third time because he was advised by Lori(manager) it couldn’t be guaranteed it could truly be blackened we were stuck with paying for food that was less than desirable.

Being once in the service industry myself, I would have never thought the day would come when customers are expected to not only pay for mediocre food, but have the owner (Steve) and manager (Lori) turn a complete blind eye to basic customer service skills.

Please beware before eating and ordering at this...
