One to two times a year we have to travel to Charleston from Charlotte for a specialty medical visit. And every time we go, there are two must do's. Going to the beach, and getting gluten free pizzas at Crust!
Wonderful fresh ingredients that I can modify for every weird allergy we have, and no cheap chewy gluten free pizza dough. Adding that wonderful scorching from wood stoves and you have one of the best little restaurants in Charleston in my opinion. That's affordable for all of us too! My favorite is the beef brisket with balsamic drizzle, and the butternut squash goat cheese pizza. My daughter is allergic to tomatoes so we can get a white sauce oh, and I can't have pork so there are delicious alternatives like goat cheese, brisket and fresh chicken. Something for everyone.
Put your order in early for pickup or make a reservation because these guys are popular and it's tough to sit outside smelling all that delicious pizza while you wait for a table for 45 minutes. And yes, the wait is always worth it. Maybe add some wings to that...
Read moreI had high hopes for this place, but my experience was far from satisfactory. We were seated immediately, but then no one came to our table for at least 10 minutes. Several people came by, but none of them acknowledged that we were there and hadn’t been served. Our waitress finally came to take our drink orders, so we ordered pizza then too. Thank goodness we did because we didn’t see her again until the end of our meal when we asked for the check. Someone else delivered our pizza and immediately turned and walked away without asking if we needed anything else like plates, silverware, or napkins. We ended up having to get these things ourselves from a cart inside because no one else ever came to check on us. The pizza itself was alright. We had the Bianca and the Pepperoni, Sausage, and Bacon. The Bianca was good, but the sausage on the other pizza lacked flavor and was disappointing. I will not be back due to the poor service, nor would I recommend this restaurant to...
Read moreLooking for some place with atmosphere after a day of sightseeing, Crust looked like it might be the place. As we pulled up, the over full parking lot for the local art house movie theater made us think twice. However, after finding a parallel parking spot and walking up to the restaurant we were pleasantly surprised at the cozy, warm atmosphere. We waited 20 minutes for a seat, as there aren't that many, maybe 20? They have a cell phone wait list, so we sat back in the car for air conditioning. When we got the text, we went back in and got seated at a small table near the front. The only problem was the closeness of the tables. I felt I was sitting right behind a table of 4, and with the other folks at the small tables. I'm a more private eater, so the closeness was a little annoying. But the food and service were excellent. If you have the time and are in the area, a visit to Crust will satisfy. Pair it with a movie next door and I'm sure you'll have a...
