I was in Charleston, SC, for Father's Day, and I had this place in my want to go favorites in google, so I decided to try it out. It was my first time here in the afternoon. There was a small line inside. And it stinked so good inside, it smelled just like you were at the warf. Made me feel right at home when I used to get seafood back in the day. The line moved pretty quickly. I wanted some large crabs, but they only had mixed. For those of you who do not know what they mean by mixed, it means mixed sizes, not mixed males and females, and in my opinion, that means mixed small to medium. They were $36 dollars a dozen. I ordered 2 dozen steamed with mild old bay season. The guy told me that it would be 45 minutes and I could pay when I came back to get them. When I came back in exactly 45 minutes, the crabs were ready. They put the crabs in a large tin container covered in tin foil, with a brown paper bag. I like that because it holds the heat and it doesn't leak. Most of the crabs were small, but all of them were very good. I will come back when they have large crabs. I live in Charlotte, NC, where they have no good places for blue crabs. Ordering crabs and to have them shipped is expensive. So, one day soon, I will be calling to see if those large crabs come in to see if it will be worth the trip. Also, I would like to try a lot of other things on the menu. They have all kinds of seafood. They have a huge selection of fish. They also have crab legs, live large crawfish, oysters, scallops, and clams. The customer...
Read moreDriving by Martin's yesterday my mom and I automatically added it to our list of spots to stop at. And we are so glad that we did! Marvin's is not the largest or prettiest spot, but it has amazing things going on inside. Upon walking in you are greeted by the scent of the sea. To the left is a line of people waiting for fresh seafood and to the right a line waiting for prepared fish and other items. My mom and I got in the prepared food line. She got the fish plate with rice and green beans and I got a side of green beans, a crab cake, and a hushpuppies. Everything was so good! The fish was fresh, green beans were pipping hot, and the hushpuppies were thick and warm! I wish I would have ordered a larger size of green beans as they were so good. The crab cake was thick and warm as well--the stuffing, omg!! I am sad that their kitchen is closed tomorrow
The staff is also very nice as well. They are happy to answer questions and make the ordering process so easy!
While waiting for our food I hopped in the fresh fish line. Unbeatable prices! I got a half a pound of scallops and a half pound of jumbo shrimp, cost me less than $10!
A must go to when in Charleston!! Put this on...
Read moreSo if you want some great fried seafood, why not get it from the place that catches it! Don't wait for it to hit the restaurant and they increase the price....for the same fish...likely cooked the same way (or similar). Marvin's is great. Fresh seafood. Good variety. Great portions. Quick but thorough service. Fair pricing. I know this place stays busy (another testament to how great the food is. I often place my order over the phone and just come in to pick it up. They seem to place a lot of to go orders. Staff are always warm and welcoming and the flavor on the food is great! I love getting the fried shrimp platter.
In regard to the fresh fish, there is great variety and I like that they will fix it however you want (head off, scaled, fillet....etc.) The fish are always a nice size and the prices are fair. The crabs are also sold at a competitive price and blue crab are so famous is Charleston.
Marvin's is in a convenient location with decent parking in the lot. Their hours are great but they stop taking order (I believe) about 30 min prior to closing. Just be sure to call ahead of time.
You definitely can't go wrong here so give...
