I have visited Pita Grille on multiple occasions, as has my wife in the past before Covid-19. Each experience was similar to the last and that isn't a good thing. This restaurant is busy at times and normally I would think that is a good thing, but honestly, after eating the food, I don't think that it is worth the hype.
My wife stopped in with her mom to have a gyro about a year ago. She chose to try a chicken gyro and told me that the chicken was really poor quality. She said that there was barely any on the pita and what was there was dry like jerky and had a lot of gristle on it. She decided not to go back for a while. Each visit was similar every time she ate there after that.
I decided to give this place a try a while back because the whole family wanted Greek food one day and even though my wife had had negative experiences in the past with the food, she agreed to give it a try.
The restaurant was relatively busy when I pulled up. There were several people waiting for to-go orders and there was a lengthy wait time for food. The only person making food was an older gentleman, so no one was really getting their food in a timely manner. I didn't mind the wait too much, especially when the older man stepped out of the kitchen to give me a sample of falafel which I had never had before. It was pretty good that time. I received my to-go order and headed straight home. When I got there, we opened our boxes and we were all relatively dissapointed. My wife ordered the chicken zorba while my daughter ordered a beef/lamb gyro and I ordered a calzone. We asked that all meals do not come with raw tomatoes since my wife is HIGHLY allergic to them and this time, they listened to my request.
To begin with, the chicken zorba was a mess. The best thing about the whole plate was the tiny salad, the tzatziki sauce and the pita bread. The rice was flavorless, the vegetables were undercooked and the chicken was extremely dry and had pieces of very visible gristle on almost every piece in the box. My wife just ate the salad, pita and tzatziki sauce and when she tried to eat the mushrooms out of the box, she said that they felt gritty like they had not been cleaned properly.
My calzone was VERY tiny. It was not worth the price that I paid for it. It wasn't hot and the filling was less than tasty. However, I ate it because I spent the money on it, so why not, right?
My daughter said that her gyro was just okay. She said that she has had much better at other Greek restaurants that we have been to.
Fast forward about 15 minutes after we ate and my wife had an allergic reaction to what we assume was raw tomato residue. Luckily after taking a Benadryl, she felt better and we just let it go. We decided to wait a while before trying the restaurant again.
Today I stopped in and ordered about $40 worth of food for my family. I ordered lasagna, a gyro, gyro zorba, beef/lamb shawarma, an order of falafel and fries. I was the only one in the restaurant and I made the point known again that my wife was highly allergic to raw tomatoes and that they shouldn't have contact with any of our food. I got my order to-go and made it all the way home just to find not only all of the meals but one covered with tomatoes, but my wife's food had a hair on it as well.
I took the food back that was wrong. I showed the older gentleman, he remade the food but didn't remake my lasagna that was stone cold by the time I got back home.
The lasagna had water in the bottom of the container as if it were frozen then reheated incorrectly. The gyro zorba was made with frozen fake gyro meat and the salad dressing tasted watered down and had the butt of the lettuce mixed in the salad. The falafel smelled oddly like shrimp and made everything else taste and smell like it as well. We were definitely put off of our food because of the poor quality and nasty smells. We will not be going back to this restaurant because it does not serve authentic Greek food and they over charge their customers for food of...
Read moreAlright, listen up, family! Your old man here just had to tell you about this little gem I found down on Wade Hampton, the Pita Grille! Now, I'm a meat-and-potatoes kind of guy, you know, but even I gotta admit, this place? It's something else. First off, the smell! It's like a Mediterranean vacation slapped you in the face, but in a good way, like when you’re grilling burgers on the 4th of July, but with, you know, spices. Spices you can't even pronounce! My wife, bless her heart, she was all, "Oh, the aromas are divine, dear." I just said, "Smells like they’re cooking something good, honey!" I ordered the gyro, because, well, "gyro" sounds manly, right? And let me tell you, it was a monster. Like, if a sandwich and a linebacker had a baby, this would be it. They loaded that pita up with so much meat, I swear it was trying to escape. And the sauce? Tzatziki, they called it. Sounds like a sneeze, but tastes like pure, creamy heaven! My son, bless his picky heart, actually ate something green! He said it was "fire," whatever that means. He also got some kind of chicken thing on a stick, a kebab, which was also pretty darn good. My daughter, always on her phone, even at the table, got some kind of salad bowl with hummus. I didn’t even know what hummus was until today. It’s like a bean dip, but fancy. She actually looked up from her screen and said it was "aesthetic" and "delicious." Now, I don't know about "aesthetic," but I know delicious when I taste it. And the portions? Huge! I mean, I felt like I needed to loosen my belt a notch, and that’s saying something. I even had leftovers, which I promptly turned into a "gyro-burrito" the next day. Genius, I know. Now, the place ain’t fancy, mind you. It's got that casual, family-friendly vibe, like your favorite sports bar, but with less TVs and more pita. And the staff? Super friendly! They treated me like I was family, even though I kept calling the tzatziki "that white sauce." So, if you're looking for a good, solid meal that'll fill you up without breaking the bank, head on down to the Pita Grille. You won't be disappointed. It’s a real home run, folks! Now, if you'll excuse me, I’m gonna go fire up the grill, maybe try my hand at some homemade tzatziki....
Read moreI visited this café with my sister. Before going, we checked the menu prices online, and when we arrived, the board displayed the same prices. The menu clearly stated that the sandwiches came with fries. I ordered a small side of hummus with my sandwich. However, when my sister checked the receipt after we had already waited for our food, she noticed that the total was much higher than expected. She asked the manager about the price difference, and he claimed that we were charged extra for the fries. She pointed out that the menu explicitly stated that fries were included with the sandwiches, but they didn’t offer any explanation or correction. By the time we realized the issue, we had already started eating, so we just let it go in the moment. Still, I don’t think it’s right, the prices should match what’s listed on the menu. We were charged $42 for our meal and two drinks. The sandwiches with fries were $11.99 each, drinks are $2.50 each. Something wasn’t right… The portions were not very big and in my opinion, it wasn’t worth the price. It also seems like they charged $8.99 the price of a full hummus appetizer instead of a side portion of hummus. As for the food, the fries were crispy and well-cooked, but the chicken shawarma was lacking in flavor. The garlic aioli was not good at all, very oily. My sister enjoyed her gyro sandwich, but overall, the experience left a bad impression. I don’t think we’ll be returning. They overcharge customers, assume no one will notice, and when questioned, they come up with excuses to justify the price hike. If you visit this place and check that your total is not different from what’s listed on the menu. If it is I strongly suggest not ordering from this establishment. I found them to be dishonest, and they definitely have...
