Have been looking forward to trying this place for the past few days because I’m a huge Vietnamese fan. I ordered the Shrimp with Vermicelli noodles, Fresh Rolls, and a BBQ Banh Mi. All of my food was mediocre and nothing crazy special. For this area and with the small amount of choices it’s probably great for those that don’t travel around and find a wide variety of Vietnamese food. Where the issue was and the low rating is the older women who is probably the mother and owner is really quite rude. I asked for another drink and presented her with a card and she immediately was frustrated and said 5.00 minimum to use a card. I then asked for extra napkins and another cup with extra ice, she seemed frustrated and snippy again and provided me with two napkins and brought another cup out pointing at mine on the table and wanted to fill my current disposable cup with ice. It seemed like she didn’t want to waste a cup and made me feel like I was just some homeless person that walked in. Keep in mind that I just spent about 30 dollars to try a variety of their food. I will not return mainly because of the experience I had...

She was told the restroom is for paying customers only. I can understand a business not wanting to encourage homeless people and such coming in just to use the bathroom but seriously? She is well dressed, obviously not a bum but rather a potential patron. This lack of simple courtesy only served to annoyed her. When she came out I went in to order lunch. The counter is almost totally obscured with plastic and signage to the extent that you can barely see anyone on the other side. I'm hearing a voice asking what I want and couldn't see the person. Imagine ordering food through the mail slot of a door, that was kind of the ridiculous set-up here. We ate out front due to the dogs. My Banh Mi sandwich was rather unfavorable and the bread dry (#7? Pork). The egg rolls were better but nothing out of the ordinary. A rather mediocre lunch in...
Read moreAfter more than a decade of being a devoted patron, Yens has always held a special place in my heart when visiting Charleston. Whether returning from school or comparing it to New York City's culinary scene, Yens was a standout, with Banh Mi that rivaled even the best Vietnamese eateries.
Regrettably, in recent years, there's been a noticeable decline in the quality of Yens' sandwiches, prompting me to reconsider my visits. Whether due to a change in ownership ( I am unaware if there has been one, but the change in quality so drastically does make one question this ) or other factors, the once-pristine meat and vibrant flavors seem to have lost their edge. Even their Thai Tea now lacks the luster it once possessed, and their boba tastes incredibly chewy.
As someone who values the balance of price and quality, it pains me to witness Yens' gradual decline. While it's difficult to part ways with a longtime favorite, I can no longer wholeheartedly endorse Yens...
