If I could rate this as a negative star review, I would.
We had a reservation for 6 pm, and came early in order to make sure we came in on time. Thank goodness we had a reservation at all, because we waited an additional half an hour in order to get our table, hinting that this place overbooks their reservations, knowing you will have nowhere else to go at that point.
We made it abundantly clear one of our parties was allergic to soy, and to also bring out our appetizers and entrees at the same time, as the allergic member of our party had not eaten yet.
We got our appetizers separately instead of together, which at this point was an hour and fifteen minutes into our stay. Our appetizers were fine, which was the only saving grace of our meal, however it was expeditiously devoured, and left us still hungrily awaiting another forty five minutes for the main course. Our server, Michelle, ignored us several times, and only came to our table once in the interim to fill our water.
Finally, when we received our meals, two hours into our meal, our server asked our soy allergic member of our party if they would like GLUTEN FREE SOY SAUCE. Read that back again if you need to, I was as shocked. I had ordered their Kraken Roll, with a whopping price tag of sixteen dollars, to be promptly disappointed by the small, sad roll that was displayed before me. Not only was this the case, but many of our parties rolls were served with blue-tinted rice… A moniker that indicates that the rice is beginning to turn. As we ate, our server had the gall to ask us if we were enjoying our meal. At this point, after they had mistakenly gave my partner a cucumber roll, we decided to walk out of our party and head outside.
All in all, if I was stranded on a deserted island and this food was airdropped to me via rescue team, I’d promptly drink the sea water. The only saving grace was the appetizer, and the other patrons which mocked the situation the staff had placed themselves in. Do not eat at Iya unless you want to laugh at the all white sushi chefs and the owner which tries (and fails) to...
Read moreI am a former New Yorker and as a young man I volunteered and became a U.S.Marine. During most of my service, I was stationed in the Pacific theatre. Specifically Okinawa and Japan. Where I was introduced to Japanese cuisine and the art of dinning. Specifically Sushi. I fell in love with Sushi and Sake. New York City has great Sushi bars that are actually owned and operated by Japanese chefs / artisans. Finding a good Sushi bar in NYC is no problem. I now reside in Western Mass and finding a good Sushi Bar, has become the preverbial quest for the holy grail. I saw the commercials for Iya Sushi and noodle Kitchen. Noted its location and one day jumped on my bike and drove to the village commons. Hoping, I had finally found a good authentic Japanese Sushi bar and restaurant. What a shock. Iya Sushi and Noodle Kitchen is a beautiful restaurant. However, it is too commercial. Severely lacking the Japanese ambience and dinning experience. The Sushi is mediocre and made by college students in black Kimono style aprons. I am sorry to say, I will never return again and I could not recommend it to anyone I know that seriously loves sushi and the Japanese dinning experience. I have found in my quest, most Sushi bars I have dined in. Throughout western mass are owned and operated by Chinese restaurateurs. Unfortunately, you have to beware. Some Chinese / Japanese restaurants, like to substitute Chinese rice in lieu of the more delicious and expensive Japanese rice. (Japanese rice is the caviar of rice ). If you accidently find yourself in one of those Chinese/ Japanese Sushi bar restaurants and you chose the wrong one. If you are a serious Sushi connoisseur. You will immediately taste and know that you are having Sashimi on Chinese rice. The Quest continues. If you know a good Sushi bar please...
Read moreMy family and I have been coming here for years even though we drive 50 minutes one way to get there. The area is beautiful as the building is set into a shopping plaza with many stores and movie theater(grab some ice cream from parlor next door for desert.) The Plaza is across from what my son calls the hogwarts school as the architecture seems very similar. As of right now, this is the best ramen you can get without a trip to a big city that I've found. Everything is always cooked. Perfect noodles are never mushy. Eggs always soft boiled, pork always crispy and tender. That being said, my only minor complaint is that the ramen egg isn't always marinated long enough ( I've tried to copy and know how hard this is, so really just a minor concern). Here are the must haves any time I go here, pork bao app (soft fluffy creamy and savory, you won't want to share), Mt holyoke roll ( my favorite sushi of all time nothing more to be said but order it), Tokyo ramen extra egg and extra pork with a side of spice (cause sometimes my wife just isn't enough spice XD). Interior is always busy (as you can imagine being across of a college), and it is a little tight, so if you're a bigger person, I'd recommend sitting against a wall because the inside is bustling. Waitstaff is always...
