We visited this bar and grill for dinner on April 27 and 28th 2023 during our stay at Kirkwood. This is a typical bar and grill. Location was fairly convenient (in walking distance right in the base area of Kirkwood ski resort). Food was not outstanding but I would say above average for bar food. Cheese steak was ok but the chicken salad and the chicken sandwich was really good. This would have been five stars for me except that it was so loud. It is NOT a relaxing meal where you can have easy conversation. This was true both times we visited. One time we were there they had a basketball game on really loud and some of the customers were yelling and cheering loudly. If you are into the game it’s a plus…otherwise highly annoying. The other time we were there they had loud music. Again it’s a bar so that’s expected to some extent but I would have enjoyed it more if I didn’t have to speak loudly so that the people sitting at my table could hear me. Service was a bit slow but very friendly. This was end of ski season so staffing was probably limited. Overall pretty good and I...
Read moreI try to be charitable when dining out given staffing challenges, but our latest visit wasn't great. We prefer this spot for lunch instead of the lodge cafeteria style spots. On this visit, we were pretty much ignored by our server, having to grab her attention several times. The icing was hubby's "burrito." The menu promised chicken, peppers, onions, guac, sour cream, salsa, and black beans. He ordered his with no beans, as always. He received chicken, lettuce, and beans - ONLY. NONE of the other ingredients. We sadly joked that my chicken ceasar wrap was as much a burrito as his. Didn't bother to complain since it took like an hour to get it. By the way, who serves tortilla chips as the side (fir all sandwiches and wraps) with nothing to dip them in? Weird. We'll hope this was a one-off and give them another...

So why conflicted? Kids hogging tables at lunch hour. I get it, 10 yos tire out fast and need to heat/fuel up. But this is a small place, and it's frustrating watching people come in hoping to get a quick, good bite before heading back up for part 2 of great skiing, only to spend 20-30 minutes waiting for a table because a family of five is hanging out over long-finished plates with no urgency to get out there.
Skiing's for everyone and I have great memories skiing as a tot (and sipping hot cocoa in the lodge). Maybe there needs to be a place for that though?
PS: pretzel + cheese...
