Sombreros Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in South Lake Tahoe

I called Sombreros and the owner Chuey and I agreed to set up a day for them to bring their food truck out to one of our events in town. Chuey said we were "locked in" and claimed they raised their price requirement to show up. We agreed again that it was okay that it was more expensive now. Well they must have been offered more money or when he said he checked his schedule he didn't. I'm fine with not having Sombreros food at our event. But I'm not fine with making a plan and then backing out due to being offered more money. That or Chuey is incompetent and didn't realize after "checking his schedule" that he had agreed on coming.

I do not recommend hiring Sombreros Mexican Restaurant for any events, parties, etc. They will cancel on you last minute leaving you hanging to dry.

However, Chicos burgers has some of the best tacos in South Lake Tahoe. Buy from them, they cater as well. Very nice people who follow through with their word.

If you love great Mexican food, friendly staff and free chips then don't go here!!! I've eaten here 4 times hoping things would change and every time its been the same experience. The food has been disgusting and the girl working the register is the MOST UNFRIENDLY and RUDE person I have ever encountered working in customer service. Every time. She's awful and needs to not be in customer service. Another thing that bothers me is they have a full salsa bar (like every taqueria), so I order food and then after I pay I asked for chips, as chips are free in just about every Taqueria in America and she tells me its $1, which I pay, no problem, but then she just hands some paper bag of chips they clearly bagged hours ago and the entire paper bag is soaked with grease. We may have caught them on a really bad day or something, but the food and service were terrible. It was fundamentally bad. You know how when you’re coming off a backpacking trip pretty much any food tastes better? That couldn’t help this place. Even their refried beans were more bland than normal refried beans. About 20 minutes after we ordered my wife went to check because kids, fresh off the trail, were super hungry. They had forgotten to even start our order.
