Bakehouse 23 — Restaurant in South Milwaukee

Update 4-28-2023 Great addition to South Milwaukee. Not your average cupcake, cake, buttercream bakery more upscale and gourmet. Definitely follow them Facebook because there has been a few time they were opening late, closed early or closed for the day, otherwise business hours are accurate. Purchase a few things, kinda forgot what was what but let's start with the S'more cookie, which I believe is vegan? Don't quote me on that. Cookie was good for being vegan, just a plain chocolate chip cookie with marshmallows toasted on top, crunchy outside but chewy in the middle. The "cosmic brownie" definitely needed some thawing out before biting into it. I was expecting a fudge chocolate, it was more dark chocolate, it wasn't bad, I am not a dark chocolate fan. The scone which I believe was pepper and something.....savory and delicious! Good cold and better warmed up. A little over powering on the pepper but with something sweet, great combination. The blueberry cheese danish was my favorite! Light wasn't heavy and filling. The cheese was perfectly creamy, light and not too sweet. The filled brioche was good, looking forward to other combinations. We got the cheeseburger filled brioche at the time. Better warmed and it reminded me of white castle burgers. They're are a few items that remain the same but every week there is something new to try. Which is where they get ya to comeback because the husband went back the next day and got two cherry danish and two scone which were jalapeno and a chocolate cookie. Cookie wasn't as good, this one was kinda hard and chewy. Scone and danish were magnificent!

Finally remembered to check this place out. It is very easy to miss when driving, definitely need some crub appeal. The shop smells amazing but at the time of our visit, nothing interested me (us) to buy and try. It's very small inside and products are limited. I will comeback on a different day and update this review. Nothing against them but be aware that parking in the winter is terrible because the people that live around them, did not shovel the rest of the sidewalk to crub area. If you are looking for some delicious bakery, BAKEHOUSE 23 IS THE PLACE TO GO!!! I ordered a cake for my husband birthday and holy moly!! It was heavy and full of deliciousness!!! It was worth every single penny! We are vegan, and our families are not, and when they tried the cake... they were all in heaven!!! They said it was the best chocolate german cake EVER!!!! My husband got a little greedy at the end (understandable it's his birthday) 🤣 because he saw there were only two slices left. When I left to go to the store and when I came back, they were gone...he hide them in the freezer (he doesn't know I found them) 😆 so we wouldn't eat it on him. That's how delicious it was! We have also tried a lot of their vegan bakery, and we have NEVER been disappointed!!! It's actually fun going there because they always have different bakery out. Oh, and they are SO SO friendly! First time customer and I have to say, this bakery is fantastic! I tried the spiced pie and oh my goodnesssss - so delicious! I love that these items are not overly sweet or drowning in sugar. Its a perfect balance of sweet, spice, and everything tasty! We also tried the pumpkin tres leches cake, snicker doodle cookie, and carrot cake. All of the items we bought were super delicious. The cakes were moist and fluffy, the cookie was evenly baked, and the pumpkin tres leches was refreshing and had a perfect pumpkin taste with a wonderfully creamy whipped topping. Loved everything!
