DiPietros Market — Restaurant in South Portland

My wife and I recently visited Maine, which was a wonderful time. We ended our stay in Portland where we flew out of. This place happened to be a few minutes away from our Airbnb so we decided to stop and try it out for a quick lunch before some activities yesterday. Both of the sandwiches we got were absolutely outstanding. She had a salami and provolone, and I got the Italian sausage with mozzarella. We both agreed they were one of the best sub-style hot and cold sandwiches we have ever had. Mine was good enough that I ended up going back later in the evening and got the same sandwich, which was 100% as good as the first one from the same morning & she got a slice of cheese pizza which was also very very good. This is the first review I’ve ever given a place, so it is absolutely well earned on their part. Who gave a one star review??? Send them to me. Sam made the best local market in the Willard area (I never went to the Portland store) since Bathras. (even Sam would bow to George, he was that kind of loving man.) I'll admit the pizza's not perfect, but VERY good. However, the Italians... oh those perfect sandwiches. Pure Maine delight. In my opinion I'd rather have a DiPeitros "Sandwich" than a pile of Kens' Clams - and that's saying something. I just became a traitor to half my family - no body shuns Ken's in Maine, but I do.

Okay, sometimes I do crave the clams, but Michael, you keep making those according your dad's design and you'll make thousands happy.

Excellent beer/wine/liquor selection, pizza is a little pricey if you get more than one topping... tonight I bought what was labeled eggplant parm, went home and heated it up because I was STARVING only to discover as I went to cut it open that it was CHICKEN. I’m a vegetarian but thankfully my boyfriend is not- I called them just to let them know that this happened, and they seemed confused about what to do other than refund my money.
