We were sent a couple of text for our check-in to make sure that the room would be ready when we arrived later that evening. The Owner said that were short staffed and wanted to make sure he had time to get everything ready. It was dark, around 7:30ish and we found the location, very cute, beautiful home., But, hard to see at night. When we got there, the entire house was basically in the dark. We were asked by the Owner to take our shoes off at the lobby area, then walked us through a poorly lit house for a tour. The room, was upstairs, beside the kitchen, hidden door, kind of like Harry Potter, under the stairs. Upstairs, had a couch, chair, that was beside another room door. A cute area for fridge and coffee. The room was a little small, but, was comfortable, the Owner actually went upstairs to the room with us and let us know they spent a lot on the mattresses for comfort. He stayed for a little while, and at that time, I realized we did not have towels or toiletries in the step up bathroom. He went back downstairs and then brought them back upstairs to the room. The water pressure was good, one night stay, close to the Portland Headlight. Great location and not far from Scratch Bakery that was very tasty. We took our goodies back and ate downstairs with a great view of the ocean. We actually watched the sun rise that morning and it was lovely. Never heard another sole in the entire hose, but, did see extra shoes in the lobby. We left early, it was a nice stay, little odd, but, nice stay. If you have any handicap issues, which I do and forgot to mention, but, I was able to go extremely slowly up the stairs. Communication is key, that was our only issue at the beginning and throughout the day we arrived, I just assumed after three texts that everything, including towels and toiletries would be completely available when we got there. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay. The price was reasonable, we were charged on our credit card months prior to...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here for 2 nights as part of a coastal Maine road trip, and overall we enjoyed our stay. It is a single room in a multi-room house. It is a b&b style stay without a front desk or formal check-in/check-out process. You text the host and they instruct you on how to access your room. Our room was situated near the kitchen, and had beautiful ocean views as promised. For the first night and next day of our stay, the kitchen was unkempt and stinky, which we had to pass through every time we came and went. We texted the host who said a cleaning service would take care of it that day which they later did. Other than this, the rest of the house was tidy. We also did not have a key to our room and it took at least an hour for them to provide that. These are the main reasons we rate this experience 4 instead of 5 stars. It was the perfect distance from Portland, about a 10-15 minute drive, with parking onsite. The details of our stay felt a little unclear right up until our stay. A basic website with information about the property and stay details/check-in and out process (more than what is on Hotel Tonight) would be a really nice touch to this already...
Read moreThis is an old beautiful home in a spectacular location. That's the good news. It is, however, living on fumes. It clearly has not been updated in well over 50 years except for perhaps some weird cheap furnishings that are now falling apart or look dirty (chairs in the room, strange lower-than-Ikea-level case around the ancient TV). But I might have overlooked all of that and just focused on the memory of the view from our room - spectacular - except that they double charged me and never put in a refund when it was pointed out. Yes, I got the credit back from the card company but it really casts an unpleasant pall on the memory of our stay that I had to deal with that - you know, talk to the card company, fill out the form, wait over a month to see if it went through. Oh, and that was after waiting a month to see if the refund they promised went through making it a two month odyssey. I don't actually think they were trying to steal, my guess is it's just part of the general dysfunction of the...
