I genuinely don’t understand how this place has such high ratings. I remember when Chinese food actually had flavor, but to be completely honest, the food here was so bland that we won’t be returning. The rice was mushy, and it seemed like they didn’t even add salt to the water while cooking it. The egg drop soup tasted like nothing, and we ended up throwing it away after just a few bites. The only redeeming item was the crab rangoon, which was good...but since it’s clearly not made in house, I can’t give them credit for it.
The young girl at the counter seemed inexperienced. she wasn’t rude but she acted like this might have been her first job (maybe around 16 years old). She didn’t speak loud enough, and when I asked her simple questions about the menu or whether I could get a cup of water for my 2 year old, her response was “uhhh... I don’t know” to everything. It seemed to overwhelm her, even though there were no other customers around. It was also awkward when she kept openly staring at us while we were trying to read the menu taped to the counter. They ended up sending another girl to the back to find a cup, and she came out with one that clearly wasn’t for customer use. Restaurants should always be prepared for basic things, such as small plastic cups for water or straws (which they didn't have either). That's just a given.
The atmosphere was also shabby. They only had two tables and it felt cramped and was set up primarily for takeout.
If you're looking for better food and a better atmosphere, I’d recommend Three Happiness on Alpine. I don’t mean to come off as overly critical, but it really feels like standards have dropped in regards to reviews, and people are handing out 5 star reviews just to avoid...
Read moreThis was my first time to this restaurant and I will not be returning. I did like the "Free hot tea". I thought that was a nice touch. I did enjoy the hot and sour soup, but thought it could have had more mushrooms added to it. I was not satisfied with the food that I had ordered. The crab rangoons were good but the egg rolls were the worst I have ever had. I had ordered the cashew chicken but wanted it extra extra spicy. I could not even tell if it had any spice added. I always ask for extra hot sauce to add to it if I need to, but the hot sauce didn't even taste spicy. I travel a distance normally to go to the MANDARIAN WOK in Sparta, but saw this and thought I would try it out. I wish I would have gone to the MANDARIAN WOK!!! Oh well, next time I...
Read moreI was not expecting to find great Eastern food in Sparta but I was wrong. This place has some of the best Chinese and Thai dishes I have ever had. They are a small family operated business so if you call to place an order you might have to call back a couple times every couple minutes to get through. Especially during dinner. They have a small dine in area for lunch. The hot and sour soup and Szechuan Chicken are...
