Spearfish Rec & Aquatics Center — Attraction in Spearfish

The water park is fabulous. Take note the water park does not open until Noon for residents and 1pm for visitors. A line will develop for visitors at 12:30. They do not check-in visitors until 1pm so the line can get quite long. Arrive early if you don't enjoy a wait. The water park is large so it can accommodate many guest. Although the water park was busy during our visit the wait for slides was short. The red slide is particularly fun because you slide down on your back and the end has a 3 foot free fall into a 10 foot deep pool. I was surprised by the 10 foot deep pool but I really enjoyed it. There are multiple pools each with different depths, suitable for all ages and experience levels. My kids particularly liked the obstacle course and bubble pool. My kids have went swimming here with their schools and their Kids Club programs several times and have always said it was so fun! I decided to take my kids there this last Sunday (7-14-24) because the high was going to be around 100°. I read on their website that they open to non-pass holders at 12. We showed up around 11:30ish and there were maybe 15 people ahead of us. Once it hit noon, the lines moved pretty fast. It cost me $65 for myself and 4 kids. We were there from 12-6 and had a blast!! I think I went down the slides more than my kids did. Haha. The concession stand was a bit expensive, but my kids and I were hungry and we honestly had no choice but to buy some food/snacks from there. We will definitely be going back again before school...

Unfortunate experience. The pool breaks are stated to last 15 minutes; however, they are longer than 15 minutes. They called both pool breaks that we were there for a few minutes early.

They closed the slide 5-10 minutes early prior to the first pool break, and one of their life guards said she accidentally closed the slide 15 minutes early prior to the second pool break that we were there for. Additionally, they refused to open the slide up when they realized their mistake because “they don’t make the rules.”

The one positive was that the front desk staff were extremely kind and helpful when we were expressing our concerns.
