A hard to find cafe without even a sign - if you didn't know it was there, you would never find it. That said, the locals knew about it - every day the waitresses would welcome the regulars by name. Service was fast, I couldn't believe how quickly the food arrived. I had the usual- eggs, sausage patties and hash browns; my wife had the same but with a (huge) pancake instead of hash browns. No complaints there. Prices were several dollars below normal 2024 prices. Our waitress Aleena was exceptional; by the third morning, she welcomed us by name. I'd gladly go again

I highly recommend this place! The food is all you want and expect from the best diner in the area. A few things we've learned: the best item on the menu (hands down) is the eggs Benedict with a side of bacon, Sundays are extremely busy, so don't take your kids super hungry (you will not enjoy your time and will disrupt other people's brunch), know that you will have to wait about 30 to 40mins for your food, and you should show up at 12 at the latest. They close at 1pm. We have three young kids and they also live this spot for breakfast. Definitely recommend!

This location is no longer the Breakfast Barn. While still a good option, they've changed the menu, the portions, and the food. The staff is still friendly and they've added more tables, but it is just not as good as it used to be. Review of Breakfast Barn Originally: Lovely breakfast place. The staff is friendly and they'll sit you and get you your food as fast as they can. The food is great. A really fun, no frills place. We go as often as we can. The photo is for the old Breakfast Barn, not the new.

Please note, this review is not based on the food, because we actually never received it. Maybe it’s the most spectacular food in the region? That’s how bad the service was. We arrived to 3/4 full restaurant (can’t imagine full capacity) with kind of a cool vibe spilling into the bowling alley, so we thought, “hey maybe we can get our food in a timely manner and get on with our day!”. That was not the case.

We ordered coffee and put in our food order and waited. Then we waited some more, not once being able to make eye contact with wait staff. Even if the food was taking awhile, we would expect to at least have full cups of coffee. But no, I even had to walk over to the wait station and fill my own cup. After an hour and a half of waiting we asked the status of our food - “15 more minutes”. That was when I left a few bucks for the coffee and we walked out, hangry. I am mostly mad at myself for waiting this long and paying...

Please take chislic off the menu. The chunks of meat were still still refrigerator cold in the middle when ordered medium rare, and not even properly browned on the outside... If you can't do it properly (let alone safely), take it off. Also barely seasoned if at all.

Please warn parties larger than 4 people about the potential delay and splitting of bringing food to the table. You have to under-promise and over-deliver on stuff like that. 10+ minutes between first half of the table getting their plates compared to the last half gets frustrating when seeing other tables served in the interim.

Consider fewer tables given how tiny the kitchen is and how slammed you all were.

Waitstaff and front desk lady were all nice. It's not a people problem. Just need to adjust a few things to make the experience more predictable and positive for guests, particularly tourists who might not be used to your setup...

This is a very reasonably priced breakfast place. The menu is not huge, and the eggs and potatoes were slightly under seasoned. Our of the two waitresses working there, ours was the unfriendly one. I think this was the first unfriendly person I have met in the entire state of Iowa. The sausage and bacon were good, and my kids scarfed down the pancakes and cinnamon roll. I felt bad for a couple that had been seated before us. They were not waited on to get their orders before our order was taken. When they brought it to our waitresses attention, she snapped at them that she didn't seat them and would be back in a minute to take their order. The food came out quick after we ordered it, but I had to walk to the register to ask to pay for the meal. They do give a discount if...
