Don't let the modest signage fool you...Taste of Portugal is a compact restaurant and bakery that's amazingly authentic and truly delivers from a huge menu of both savory and sweet freshly made American and international staples. Locally owned by a Portuguese couple with roots in both Portugal and Brazil, it offers the cravings of multiple Portuguese favorites, also including some staples from the New Bedford and Fall River areas of Massachusetts. My husband and I have been searching for a place to get the authentic food and flavors that he grew up eating in New Bedford. It was well worth the 2 hour drive and we will go again and again! Two sandwiches that blew us away were: the cacoila and chourico with pimientos - truly the genuine deal. Both with their own unique flavors, they truly won us over. The iced cappuccino was delicious and made fresh...and there were also several Portuguese soda flavors to choose from. They also offer tons of freshly made rolls, breads and pastries that were to die for. The Portuguese rolls and sweet rolls have the genuine texture and taste that we love - so airy and light that they practically melt in your mouth. There are several tables located inside with a clean bathroom and the kitchen was also spotless and well maintained. We also saw a non-stop stream of pick-up orders while we were there. The assortment of both savory and sweet pastries, both American and international, was impressive. Plus there was also breakfast options, salads, avo toast and even acai bowls. Some additional highlights include: bifana and cacoila sandwiches, cuban sandwich, egg and chourico sandwich, chourico assado, pasteis de bacalhau, pasteis de natas, Philly cheesesteak, pistachio tiramisu, flan, bola de Berlin, rainbow cake and so much more. And I can't forget to mention the cannoli was the freshest we've had here in Florida. It reminded us of the ones we had when visiting Little Italy, NYC. We've traveled the country trying local restaurants, we're both self proclaimed foodies... and we both agree that Taste of Portugal is one of our...
Read moreDelicious Bifana sandwich! A staple of Portuguese street food, this sandwich is humble but one bite elevated me to a new world of flavor. Tender marinated pork and sweet onions come together with a subtle spiciness that is reminiscent of a Dijon mustard spice, without the mustard. Soft bread captures the flavors within it.
I also went for the Portuguese custards, pastel de nata; perfect custard texture and a rich sweet flavor of vanilla and eggs, wrapped in a crispy phyllo dough crust. Crunchy and delightful, it adds a fun new dimension to the treat.
I found the malasadas to be fresh and sweet. These are like flat doughnuts covered in cinnamon sugar. Soft pastry that defies the translation! I discovered the morgada pastry on my visit; it is a layered pastry with cake, almond paste and walnuts. Soft, with a little nutty crunch and a springiness, it was a delight to enjoy.
The service was friendly and excellent and the bakery is clean and bright inside. Prices were very reasonable. I called ahead and Donna had my order boxed and ready for me to pick up when I arrived. ...
Read moreThis place is the real deal. Add New York and Jersey to "A Taste Of Portugal," because it's a taste of those 2 places too. I was blown away by the selection you guys have and when I got home and opened the box, my kids eyes lit up, so that made me happy. They've only heard stories from me about how great the bakeries are up north, so now it was time to prove it to them. They took 1 bite and they were hooked and so was I, because this was my 1st time to finally try your bakery. Well above my expectations. You didn't disappoint. Donna was very knowledgeable about all the baked goods and so were the other 2 ladies that were there working. I hope you guys are here to stay, because there's alot of us Yankees down here, that love and appreciate an awesome bakery. My kids and I are hooked and we'll definitely be back. 5 Stars...
