Let me start off by saying I absolutely love Burney's croissants, esp the bavarian creme filled ones. Though, some of the fillings do taste very pre-made and artificial (ie. Strawberry, peach, apple). My biggest gripe is this: I ordered a decorated, 4 layer yellow cake for my daughter's birthday. The ordering process was way more complicated than it had to be. The girl at the counter had a difficult time understanding what I was asking for, even though it was a simple design (piped rosettes) and I showed a picture. Then there was question to whether or not it could even be done. I was told they had to contact the girl who decorates the cakes and find out, and someone would call me). It was about 10 am or so, and nobody called me back that day, or the next. I called at 11:45 am, and there was still not a definitive answer as to if it could be done. I got a call back about 20 minutes later saying yes it could be done for pickup the next day at 4:30 pm. Great. They also had me pre-pay the entire amount over the phone. My husband picked it up and I had him send me a picture. It looks fine enough from what I can tell, though the cake was touching the sides of the box in a couple of places. When I opened the box, the cake was slightly lopsided, and some of the rosettes were ruined from being in contact with the sides of the box. Luckily, I was adding a bunch of decorations so it wouldn't be noticeable really. Overall it looked okay. So finally we have cake later that evening.... Let me tell you, this has to be one of the absolute worst tasting cakes I've ever had. Ever. The "buttercream" frosting was slightly gritty, and tastes like it's made with shortening rather than butter. But the cake itself was the worst part, artifically yellow looking, a weird bitter-chemically taste that left a coating in your mouth. Walmart and Food Lion surpass this cake taste tenfold. Also, my "four layer" cake was actually only 3 layers, with the bottom layer being about 1/3 of a layer, and the top layer being the other 2/3. I called the next day to discuss my cake. I spoke with the decorator, who told me that they use frozen, pre-made yellow cake, and that it gets cut by management, then she assembles and frosts it. I told her I was upset that I only truly received 3 layers, that the cake tasted so bad, and that Burney's should probably use different cake.... (or you know, make their own... being a small bakery/dessert shop and all.... and on the Google description it even says "homemade cakes"). The girl herself even said the cake isn't good. I was not offered any remediation to this situation. I'm not sure why they even bother offering cakes if they're this terrible. I'm truly in disbelief and so disappointed. See photos of when my husband picked it up, after I added all the decorations, and once it was sliced. You can clearly tell it's lopsided and that there are not...
Read moreThis place location is a miss. The croissants are always old. I’ve gotten them 4+ times and they disappoint every single time. They should really only have a shelf life of maybe 2 hours I’d say and then after that they just taste like old fried dough the old oil is all you taste which means they’re also probably putting them in the oil too early. I’ve continued trying the croissants because their Erwin location makes them AMAZING. Same with the baklava, blondies, cookies, and brownies they all taste old and dry. I’ve went several times even in the mornings they’re tasting days old and dry. I went yesterday at 11am and they were out of almost everything. They only had 2 macaroons left I did purchase them and yet again they’re tasting days old and stale. The only consistently good thing I’ve gotten from here is the Hershey bar cake and even at that they used to frost the bottom but I guess now they don’t and the frosting is the best part. I’ll also add they put a piece of parchment down in between the cake and container which is probably more convenient for them but so inconvenient to eat. As you can imagine if they’re selling old deserts the parchment gets soggy and absorbs the icing. They should just wear gloves when making and take the parchment off when putting it in...
Read moreAfter my hair appointment I saw this store I have never seen before and decided to check it out. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with welcome arms and shown the various desserts. Unfortunately, I am on medication that prevents me from having too much sugar, but the man behind the counter showed me options that weren't crazy sweet! He was extremely helpful. At first I was worried that they would have pre-packaged desserts, because that means that I have to hope and pray the people who made it actually inspected the food during the creation process. However, my fear was eased as I watched a woman behind the counter in a proper FDA standard uniform (hairnet and all) mixing strawberry puree and putting it into the croissants. I figured the place was too good to be true, and that the prices must be outrageous, but I learned better when I saw the price of the two croissants and single banana pudding I got. The banana pudding was 3-ish something dollars, and the croissants were roughly 1-ish something dollars. In total I spent $7.77 with the tip I gave. This is definitely a place I recommend if you have a sweet tooth, or want to get something cheap with high...
