We came to visit Excalibur first thing on a Sunday morning, as the massive Winter storm was coming in to town that evening. Needless to say, we were practically the only ones coming to the Brewery to visit. Thankfully the staff made us feel like Royalty! They had Star Wars playing on the TV and had space heaters setup to help combat the cold. We had never tried their brews, and ended up trying four different varieties that we loved for different reasons. My personal favorite was the Vanilla Stout shake - it was creamy, dark, and smooth all the way through. Their bathroom was very clean, you could see the staff brewing right in front of you practically which was awesome and almost a tour in and of itself. We didn't get a chance to try the restaurant next door although the menu looked pretty amazing as they had some gourmet sounding sandwiches and loaded dogs/brats. We ended up buying some of their Brewery merch (stickers and coffee) as we loved the knightly theme being big Ren Fest folks. I've gotta say, we were shocked at how good their coffee roast is! These guys know what they are doing and I wish their beer was offered in more tap rooms! They also offer a mug club of sorts that sounded like a value if you live close by, and host events quite frequently from what I can see. Parking was ample so this is a great place to come with friends or even just have a relaxing date. Can't wait to come back when we...
Read moreNote: My rating system is three stars for what I would consider an acceptable or average experience for the venue that I'm rating. I do this because I'd like to reward excellence when I find it; hard to do that with posting 5 stars on everything.
Had my company Christmas party here with a couple of games, beer tickets and some fun scavenger hunt stuff around Old Town Spring. Devan, the GM, was very accommodating in getting the venue set up (I would make sure you have a sufficiently sized party if you want to book the place out) and were very helpful getting all of the charges together.
The beer is average to excellent depending on what you pick. There are some issues with consistency on a couple of brews but I chalk that up being a new brewery as it takes time to get a recipe to where you want it. In my opinion, their more alcoholic options (stouts, quads, barleywines, etc.) are better than the lighter beers.
Lots of food trucks show up and now BlackHouse tavern is next door so I'll be checking that out tonight.
Edit: BlackHouse is nice, pretty reasonable food but nothing particularly special. Liked the burgers but did not like the...
Read moreThe staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and hospitable. I really enjoyed this taproom. It is small and less commercial than many other more corporate taprooms. It feels more welcoming. There is a large outdoor patio with plenty of seating. There is a parking lot with free parking and overflow parking is available at the church across the street.
There is a large selection of beer/seltzers to chose from (19 taps!). There were 4 seltzers available when I was there that each had unique flavors. The brewery has a nice selection of beers (kudos for having a scotch ale!), although I would like to see a porter and/or another stout offered as well as a pilsner. The beer shows promise and many beers are high gravity (strong ABV).
I also like the theme of this brewery. The flight boards are unique (a sword... Hence the Excalibur theme). Well done!
Prices are reasonable and in line with what you'd expect for a craft brewery. There is also a happy hour special available from 2-6pm for 10% off. I went here on a Wednesday (not sure if HH special is...
