This Chinese restaurant is one of the best in the entire region. I'm actually a little bit worried about publishing this because I'm afraid that by doing so more people are going to go here and somehow result in the quality going down, or they're going to have to hire more people and the consistency of the product is going to be more varied. This family-run establishment consistently produces some of the best takeout Chinese. Now, mind you, I order virtually the exact same thing every time, so I can't necessarily comment on all of the menu offerings. So let me break down what I usually order and tell you why I think it's so good.
First, the general tso's chicken: It's among the best that I've had. The texture is regularly crispy on the outside and nice and tender on the inside. It doesn't taste like it's been sitting around in the refrigerator for 30 days and they're just refrying it. More times than not, there is a level of freshness to this dish that I don't get at other area restaurants. At other area restaurants, I will oftentimes get pieces of chicken that are stringy or taste like they were produced quite a while ago and just dropped in the wok to refry. The sauce on the general tso is perfectly balanced. It's sweet, it's spicy, it has umami, it's a nice level of saltiness, and just hits all of the right notes. I even use that sauce for the vast majority of the other things that I order. I dip my egg rolls in it, I use it for my pan- fried dumplings, and it tastes quite delightful with the pork lo mein that we usually order alongside it.
This brings me to the pork lo mein, which is consistently good, and when paired with everything else in the combo, it's very satisfying. There are some other area restaurants that get a really nice smoky / wok fried flavor infused into the noodles. I'm not sure how they achieve that, but That makes them a little bit better than these. The one pro that this lo mein has is that it generally tastes fresher. All the components within the lo mein are also typically cooked a little bit better as well. I've had some before that have a level of sliminess or overcookedness, and that very infrequently happens here.
Next to the egg rolls, their egg rolls are the best in the area. I've had them all. These are generally fried appropriately, have the better tasting filling, and seem to be fresher. Again, similarly at other local restaurants, it seems like the egg rolls are made 3 weeks ago and they're just defrosting them and dropping them in the fryer. If this restaurant does the same practice, you can't tell.
The other thing we usually order is the pan fried dumplings. Again, compared to other area restaurants, these are much better. The filling is typically more flavorful and the ratio of dough to filling is more appropriate. Also, the sauce that comes along with it seems better balanced. There are some that we get at other restaurants where the sauce is either too sweet or too salty, this one tends to be balanced really nicely.
Sometimes we also get the wonton soup. This is also a soup that is not necessarily the best I've had, but it's still very good and satisfying. I have had wonton soup at other area restaurants where the broth has a little bit more flavor. But, for a classic wonton soup, this one typically delivers. They're wontons also tend to be some of the best. The broth itself is sometimes a little bland. So overall, I'll take this as a win.
That's all we usually order, and because we don't eat Chinese takeout all that often, this is usually the order we go with every single time... because typically when we order from here we're craving it. This is roughly a 1-hour round trip drive for us, but every time we come here it's worth it. On top of all that, the family and the people working here are all very pleasant. Based on all the interactions that I've had with them over the years, they clearly take a lot of pride in their products and services. I will continue to drive that 1-hour round trip to support...
Read moreThe food I have is always fresh and made well. Today i had the spareribs on bones dinner ran about $9.20 plus $1 dollar tip because the food was so good. I love their pork fried rice. It actually has a wonderful flavor that's hard to find at other restaurants. It's fresh, not dried rice. The ribs were perfect. They were seasoned in a sweet sauce and moist inside and lightly crunchy outside, very rare to have good ribs. Even the egg roll was wonderful. It was nice and crunchy without all that runny oil most other places have. It had bits of pork inside and just the right amount of cabbage with flavor! Some egg rolls are...
Read moreExcellent spareribs, fried rice, won ton, egg drop soup, and lomein. The flavors are outstanding. Most Asian fast food places lack sufficient flavor.
The chicken broccoli sauce is way too salty. I hope someone reads this and can reduce the sodium. The amount of broccoli and chicken is excellent.
Service is fast and friendly. Atmosphere is simple casual. It would be nice if it felt more quaint and romantic since it is small. It might draw more customers for the atmosphere as well. The food is already good. People eating there might order more food.
They have other food. That's just as good my boyfriend really likes a lot of...
