The pizza? Mediocre. The service? An absolute dumpster fire.
We were just trying to grab a few slices to go when we ran into a friend who decided to join us in line. Simple enough, right? Apparently not for this place, where logic goes to die and customer service is treated like a personal offense.
My husband, in an act of chivalry that he now deeply regrets, placed our order (4 slices for our family) and our friend’s order (2 slices for her and her boyfriend). That’s when the whole operation went off the rails. Six slices? Too much, apparently. The staff acted like we’d asked them to cater a wedding on 5 minutes’ notice. They barked at us that we’d have to order a half pie, completely ignoring the fact that we were clearly two separate parties with two separate orders.
We explained. Then explained again. And again. They just couldn’t—or wouldn’t—grasp it. It felt like arguing with a wall that thinks it’s smarter than you. There was pizza right there, already made, but they refused to sell it to our friend unless she waited for a new pie. Why? Who knows. Petty power trip? Sheer incompetence? A tragic lack of communication skills? Whatever it was, it culminated in us getting yelled at by the staff for trying to… buy pizza.
Needless to say, we walked out empty-handed and completely appalled. My friend lives in Riverside. We live in Hainesport. We weren't pulling some shady slice heist—we were just trying to support a local business that clearly couldn’t care less about the people keeping their lights on.
Bottom line: if you like your food served with a side of condescension, chaos, and a heaping scoop of hostility, this is the place for you. If not, go literally anywhere else. You’ll thank yourself later.
I don't typically write bad reviews, but cannot help...
Read moreNeed more proof that New Jersey is the greatest state in the union for pizza(Connecticut has one really good pizza town to carry their states relatively undeserved pizza reputation, and for as great as the places can be in the Big Apple, it doesn’t cover up that upstate New York is a pizza desert), how about the fact that you can get one of our state’s most well known pies at a farmers market (granted, the Columbus farmers market is the biggest and best in Jersey). Kate and Al’s have been around since the 50s and their style of pizza reflects their longevity. Their statewide famous Sicilian is almost like a hybrid between a thinner grandma style Sicilian and a Trenton tomato pie. The sauce was really savory and rich, it was delicious and the stand out trait of this pizza for me. Unlike a lot of grandma Sicilians, they use low moisture mozzarella versus the fresh mozzarella you normally come across, which is why it reminded me of a Trenton tomato pie, in addition to the sauce being on top of the cheese, which is also done on a lot of Sicilian pies as well. The base was light and fluffy, just how I love a Sicilian to be. The crust probably stood out the least, which is not necessarily bad thing, but I probably expected a little bit more crunch. Just off the sauce alone though, I have to give this pizza an 8 out of 10. It’s a great pie that’s definitely a must try while you’re at the incredible Columbus...
Read moreWent to this place yesterday. I've been there before several years ago and remembered I enjoyed it a lot. However I would never go to this place again! Or the other pizza joint at the Columbus mart, I'll review that place later. But Kate and Al's has the worst service ever! I was second in line however someone else (looked like a regular) came up to the counter and got served before I did. Then a minute later it happened again! And the cashier saw me standing behind the one guy that was paying but didn't ask me if I needed help. I was pretty much being ignored. I was about to leave when someone finally acknowledged me. When I got closer to the counter I could see how dirty the floor was and and the soda machine was dusty and dirty. Also another employee that could have been helping me was small talking with someone else when she knew I needed help. Terribly rude service! Not to mention they weren't wearing any type of pizza logo shirts. It looked like they were wearing their pajamas. So when I finally got my pizza it was cold and I found a hair!! I didn't even want the rest so I threw it away. Maybe this place was good years ago but now it's gone down the drain. Never again! I rather get food at the Amish market where there's good service...
