12/03/2019- I have updated my review to Excellent! (I left my original review here for reference below).

December 3rd is my wife's birthday and I was looking for a place to have a nice dinner in Springfield. I had not been in The Depot in over 2 years because of my Experience on 07/01/2017

I decided to call The Depot and talk to the General Manager Mike Story as requested in the response to my original review below. The Owner, Doug Voise, came to the phone. He assured me that we would be well taken care of. I am not sure if that is the only reason why but let me tell you that was the best meal we have had out in a long time. And our server Justin was perfect.

My wife and I both ordered the Texas Tips (med rare) and they were cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the Texas Tips to anyone reading this. This was about the best tasting steak I have ever had! Perfect service, drinks, food and a perfect evening! Thank You!

(This was my original review and is now history.) 07/01/2017- Service and dining experience not so good. * Waiter would disappear, neglected to take used dishes from the table and refill coffee even after being asked. * Sirloin Steak was brought cold and had to be sent back to to warm on grill. The steak had a good flavor but found to be extremely grisly on one side. Not typical of a sirloin. * I Never received the final cup of coffee I had to ask the waiter for even after he had returned to our table twice. So I just gave him my used empty cup that had been sitting on the edge of the table and said don't worry about it.

3 Response from the owner2 years ago Thank you, Mr. Bennett, for taking the time to let us know of the issues you had on Saturday. It is our goal to consistently serve the highest quality food and service possible, and we obviously missed the boat on your table. I do hope you will give us another opportunity to serve you so we can correct our mistakes. Please let my general manager, Mike Story, or myself know when you're in next so we can make up for your unpleasant experience. Thank you again, and I hope to see you again. - Doug Voise 07/01/2017- Service and dining experience not so good. * Waiter would disappear, neglected to take used dishes from the table and refill coffee even after being asked. * Sirloin Steak was brought cold and had to be sent back to to warm on grill. My wife and I wanted to have a “date lunch” yesterday (Aug 2,23). I suggested the Depot because we are able to walk there from our Springfield residence (I’m confined to a power chair).

We have often eaten there, but I never have posted a review but wanted to. What can I say??? The Depot is to us, by far, one of the best restaurants around. Always great food and good service!!!

My wife ordered the Tropical Islander salad, while I had the country fried steak with sautéed mushrooms. We both drank water with lemons. My entree came with a house salad. Our servings were huge!!! We both were more than satisfied with our meals. Her salad was filled with tasty chicken, mandarin orange slices, almonds slices, pineapple pieces and came with plenty of dressing. It wasn’t just a pile of lettuce with a few toppings. No! This was a delicious and filling meal.

The country fried steak was delicious and cooked to perfection accompanied with tasty gravy. The superb sautéed mushrooms came in their own large portion container. I was very pleased with our meals.

Our server’s name was Zack. From the moment we sat down until we left, Zack greeted us, cared for our needs, and responded to our questions and requests with courtesy and professionalism.

We both knew that we would have a wonderful time on our “date lunch” at the Depot and we were right!!! We both highly recommend to everyone to make the Depot a regular part of your dining out experiences. As I recommended to a friend who is new to our town, order anything in the menu because everything is...

We typically love The Depot but last night was by far the worst experience we have had in a restaurant, ever! We arrived at 5:18 & were told it would be an hour, possibly a little longer. We were okay with the wait time given it was a Friday night butafter waiting 57 minutes the manager came to tell us that they couldn't give us a table for seven so we would have to make a booth working we wanted to be seated. At this point we were frustrated but having already waited so long, we agreed. We watched four other parties of four be seated, frustrating but I figured maybe there just weren't tables beside each other. After watching two families sit with their food in boxes waiting to pay for over ten minutes, I asked the manager if he would help them since their servers were clearly slammed, he responded by yelling at me that he was handling everything and I was quoted over an hour. Another 10 minutes went by and he then raised his voice to me from across the small wait area, "they are getting up now." I let it go, simply because at this point J knew I would lose my tempering I engaged and things escalated. Finally he walks over to us & says, "Are yall ready?" The saving grace of this nightmare was that our server was extremely nice & was more than willing to fix the kiddos food since their chicken tenders were over cooked and tasted like the fryer grease needed to be changed. I hate to say it because we've like this place for years but we will...

The 2 stars holding this review up is for the wait staff. They were pretty friendly and attentive. I ordered a special burger med and my friend ordered the same but well done. Mine came out RARE with soft fries and her's medium rare. She had her's reheated which seemingly took longer than making the whole burger in the first place...while her onion rings got cold and I waited to eat my food. I don't understand how a bar and grill doesn't know how to cook a burger to order. I would expect a 1/2 lb burger to take a while to cook properly, the cook in the back should expect so also. That, or sell smaller more manageable patties. A guy at the table next to us had to send back a rare steak as well as we were leaving. Hostess was frantically asking her staff to check for empty tables. Felt like every person in there was under so much pressure to turn tables. They gotta slow it down. The food came very quickly, but what's the point? The manager never came out to speak to us about the mistake. The waiter didn't do anything about my rare burger other than say oh, and seemed thankful that I didn't send it back also. Only reason I ate it is because I got the feeling they wouldn't be refiring the whole meal. (Friend's burger came on a new bun, same old cut in half meat reheated, no new onion rings)

I had a wonderful lunch here with my friend. We ordered the smoked duck quesadilla with Chipotle mayo as an appetizer. It was different and interesting! The candied pecans complemented the duck and the spiciness of the mayo well. For our meals, my friend had the grilled salmon with broccoli and sweet potato fries (served with a delicious cinnamon butter), and I had the tropical islander salad with fried chicken on the side (I'm weird like that) with raspberry vinaigrette dressing. The dressing was perfectly sweet with a slight twang, the fruit was fresh and almonds crispy. The coconut was a very nice touch. I was satisfied with the fried chicken (I'm very picky about my breading). Overall a delicious salad! For dessert we tried the carrot cake and the Snickers ice cream cake. The presentation on both had our mouths watering. We both couldn't finish our desserts. The snickers ice cream was so delicious. The creamy caramel and chocolate sauces, with the crunchy peanuts, atop chocolate swirl ice cream was unbeatable. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're passing through the area, or looking for a nicer sit down restaurant to meet a friend or coworker. The service was fantastic as well. We both had water with extra lemon and I love how she presented our lemons!

We had a great time at The Depot in Springfield, Tennessee tonight. We had about 25 minutes to wait, but nothing to gripe about. The atmosphere is pub-like but warm and comfortable. (You need to be prepared that you are just a few yards from an active train track, so you will hear one from time to time. It is not obtrusive unless you are outside.) They had steaks on the menu, but I wanted to try the Rueben. We had fried dill pickle spears and cheese sticks to start, both were done well. My wife had the Buffalo Chicken sandwich and I had the, aforementioned, Rueben. Her sandwich had a large breast and was done very well. She said it was slightly spicy and had a good zing to it. My sandwich was loaded with pastrami and had a good balance of sauerkraut and thousand island dressing. The bread was a marbled rye (as it should have been). My sandwich was so much food that I almost didn't finish it, hers was too much. The prices were on-par or slightly below what I expect for the area near (but not in) Nashville. Get off the beaten path and venture out about 30 minutes to Springfield. See the historic courthouse, the local businesses where they have filmed a dozen or so sappy movies for the Hallmark channel, and go two blocks south to the depot. It is worth the trip.
