I am visiting the area and saw this place while trying to get my steps in. They were closed (Monday) the first day, so I came back the next day with a friend.
There were a few others waiting, so I hoped that was a good sign. It was a nice day so we decided to stay an eat there.
I wanted the oxtail plate, but they had sold out, so I ordered the brown stew plate instead. My friend had the Avocado Chicken sandwich with fries. I was looking for a hibiscus drink and mest patties kinda disappointed they didn't have any on the menu.
The brown stew was cooked well, cut perfectly, and was fresh. The rice and peas were moist and also cooked perfectly. The cabbage was tender to the bite but lacked seasonings. They were bland, to say the least.
The Avocado Chicken sandwich was wonderful, says my friend. We both were stuffed and glad we had walked there.
If you're looking for good, fresh, traditional island food, with friendly service, give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. I will look for this place when in the area...
Read moreMaybe I'm a moron for trying to give this local business another chance. The inconsistency and lack of consideration for others still plagues Hibiscus Jerk Hut. Ordered through GrubHub at 11:22AM, well after their advertised opening time. Order was never confirmed by the restaurant and the order was only cancelled once a driver arrived at there, wasting that driver's time and impacting their revenue. If they ARE closed for some reason, Jerk Hut would not answer their phone, nothing on their website or social media accounts mentioned this deviation from their established business hours. It's a shame that their food is good because I am not ordering from this establishment again... And their voicemail clearly states GrubHub as an option for delivery, so I don't care to hear some excuse from them about being taken by surprise by an order, or some other variable outside of their control. Time to start taking accountability for actions, or lack of them. Do...
Read moreAs a true foodie and trucker, I eat at restaurants in 48 States in the USA, weekly. The good: the cabbage is delicious, a little too salty but delicious! The bad: The grand sampler was not grand. The portions were disappointing for the expensive prices. The flavors aren’t authentic Jamaican but good for Westernized Jamaican food. The cook is heavy handed with the salt; perhaps consider using pink Himalayan salt. The ugly: Because the Springfield area lacks diverse, authentic ethnic cuisines, this place is overrated. The reviews are from people who definitely have not eaten at authentic Jamaican restaurants. I wouldn’t order again and for the price, I did not find it worth recommending to others. But again, I’m just one serious foodie. The amateurs will continue to eat...
